sacrocolopexy cystocele/rectocele

Nancy,

Go with your gut. The surgery is difficult, but I survived with out many problems. Did not even take pain meds at home. You must have some kind of help at home for at least two weeks. After that, I was
walking around. Did not drive or lift heavy
objects. Everyone responds differently.
Given my age of 67, I think that I did rather well. I am a care giver and knew that I had to recover. The time before the surgery was the worst.
I still do not feel fully revovered, but am back into my normal hectic life.
You will do fine.
You must have faith in your doctor. I am not sure I really LIKED mine, but she is one great surgeon with an excellent track record. My gut told me to go with her and I am glad I did.

I had an attemted try at removing a ovarian cyst vaginally years ago, that failed and left me with a large amount of scar tissue. This was wrose than the abdominal operation.
Be calm. Will try to help you as much as possible.

sacrocolpopexy

A sacrocolpopexy (or sacral colpopexy) is considered a repair for vaginal vault prolapse. They attach mesh to your vaginal vault and use that to suspend to your sacrum (tailbone).

As far as I know this has nothing to do with a fistula repair though perhaps if you needed this repair also they could be done at the same time.

abdominal vs. vaginal repair

Nancy,
I had a hysterectomy and my GYN nicked my bladder 4 days later went in for an abdominal repair and it failed. My GYN didn’t want to try again so he referred me to a great URO doctor that fixed mine 3 months later. That was February 20th 2004 I have since had no problems my doctor used the mesh still not sure what that was but it worked. I hope you find a great doctor that gets this resolved soon. I sure know how you feel and what you’re going through. My prayers are with you. I hope this helps in your decision. was reading all the post and didn’t se one about a failed ABD repair just wanted to let you know they do happen. But if I had to choose I would go for the ABD repair again. But I don’t know for sure why your doctor would rather do a vaginal repair maybe it’s because of where the hole is? If you have gotten a few opinions it might be the right choice. Anyway best of luck to you let me know if I can help you. s
Christy
