Tapentadol for pain

Hi,
My doctor said she would likely give me tapentadol to take home post-op. Right after surgery I will be given a strong NSAID (not sure the name of it). I let her know NSAIDs give me severe stomach pain (possible bleeding?). I'm assuming since it will be done through the IV that I will by-pass that particular problem.
Has anyone else had tapentadol and what was their experience?

Thanks!

Re: Tapentadol for pain

Tapentadol is an analog of Tramadol (Ultram), so it's slightly more potent. It is a narcotic pain killer, with the usual narcotic side effects of drowsiness, dry mouth, unsteady gait (be careful on stairs and in the shower) and some people find it constipating.

Having listed the negatives, the BIG positive is that it is a very effective painkiller. It will enable you to sleep well without being woken up by pain when you turn over, and should make you comfortable enough to walk around gently post op. You likely only need it for a short period of time, so addiction is not an issue.

Hope this helps
