Cervical Cancer--Facing Hysterectomy at 30...
Hi everyone, thank you for this board.
I'm new here and so grateful for the information and support.
I have cervical cancer and have been through various treatments. Unfortunately it's come to needing a total hysterectomy (although my surgeon says she's leaving in my ovaries).
I'm so sad and so scared and I have to give her my decision in 2 months. I will be reading all I can and trying to learn about live as a postop. Thankfully I'm done having children.
I'm still shell-shocked. This happened SO fast.
Robin

Cervical Cancer--Facing Hysterectomy at 30...
Hi Robin,
Welcome! I am 4 weeks post-op tomorrow, TAH kept the ovaries. I had my hyst for the same reasons you are having yours. I am a little older than you (39), but I have been battling this problem for about 6 years, I really didn't want to go through a hyst, but finally I gave in and decided to put it behind me. I was a wreck the week before the surgery, I kept questioning my decision, I felt perfectly fine, periods were always every 29 days, very little pain, only lasted 4-5days, what the heck was I doing subjecting myself to this, I was sure I wouldn't make it and my daughter would be motherless. WELL, fast forward to today. The surgery was easier than the wait, all went well, I feel great again. Whats the worst part? Being stuck in the house for so long and being bored. And the best news for me is that I had the big O today, I must say I was worried that losing my cervix might have an effect, but it didn't. Good luck to you with your decision, I know its a tough one.

I am one of the hostesses on the Cancer Concerns forum. I just wanted to second Karen's invitation that you stop over on CC. There are many ladies there that share your diagnosis. It is a wonderful forum for info, advice, support and hugs.
You sound hestitant in making the decision for this surgery.
Have you considered getting a second opinion from a gyn oncologist. They are the experts when it comes to gyn cancers.
Hope to welcome you to Cancer Concerns real soon.

Hi Robin and welcome!
I too am glad that you found us, though I'm also sorry that it's because of a cancer diagnosis and surgery.
I had a radical hyst for cervical cancer. It all happened very quickly for me too, and I know how scary it is. I was 43 when I had my surgery and my ovaries were removed; I think it's good news for you that you will be able to keep your ovaries.
I would like to second what Karen Ann has said about an ONC GYN. My regular GYN referred me to my ONC GYN once the diagnosis was made and I've never looked back. They truly are the experts in this area.
Best wishes and s

cervical cancer
Hi robin,
I am in much the same situation as you. I am 31, was trying to get preganent when I found out that I had cervical cancer. I have tried everything to avoid a hysterectomy, but it seems like that is my only option left. And like you I get to keep my overies. I aganize daily over my this. but when it comes right down to it, living my life healthy and free of cancer is the most important thing. So while I will never be able to have the baby that my husband and I wanted, it is this baby that has probaly saved my life. The children that I do have need and deserve a mother who is healty and will be there for a very long time to watch and help them grow up. And that is what I try to remember when I have my doubts.

I too was diag. with cervical cancer, Being only 29 it was a complete shock. I have one daughter who is now my ne and only. After discussing things with my husband I decided to have the TAH. I am now 9 days post op. You need to keep yourself healthy for your family and this may be the best way. Good luck to you whatever you decide. Post op life has not been bad so far.......

Me too! 5 days post op for cervical cancer. Kept my ovaries too. Listen, I know it's scary, I went through a terrible time before. But I'll tell you what, pathology was quick, and I now know that I am free of the cancer that had invaded my body. The pain of recovery is difficult, but worth every second of it. Keeping your ovaries is a big, wonderful deal. I'm glad you're here, this site has been vital to me. (and continues to be)
Cancer is such a frightening word. Learn all you can. Your decision can only be made by you. But you are what counts. You deserve a healthy, happy life. Remember that!
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Welcome to your new family!

Cervical Cancer--Facing Hysterectomy at 30...
Robin,
Hi sister. I am glad that you found this board, also. I am 30 yrs. old and was told in August that I had cervical cancer and we needed to move quickly, because unlike most cervical cancers that I've been told move slowly, mine was moving and spreading very quickly. I had no time at all, and no decision to make...I was going to have a hysterectomy, and that was that. It was a very scarey time, and I was a total mess when I found the Hystersisters site. This site has been my saving grace. I'm 7 wks post op today, and have a new lease on life. I'm here if you need a friend.
