Tucks work well but basically all they are is witch hazel. What I plan on doing is using a squirt bottle with water and witch hazel. Disinfects and if the tucks are put in the fridge that feels really good in sore areas.

I heard that you can pour water on a large maxie pad put it in a zip lock bag & put it in the freezer! Once frozen, put it in your underwear like normal & it helps with the pain & controls the swelling.

Did your doctor say you would be having an episiotomy? I didn't with my LAVH? If you will be having one, your doctor may have specific products he wishes you to us or not use so ask.

I read this also using a bladder control pad due to the absorption material also desposible diapers are good too. The one I read said to put one part rubbing alcohol to 2 parts water. The rubbing alcohol helps to keep the pad a little more pliable plus lowers the temp. These are also good ice packs for incisions any where.

Re: What to use on your Episiotomy incision if you've had a LAVH

Asboaz, I had a pretty nasty episiotomy when my son was born. It tore first then the doctor cut the rest of the way. I was also told later that what made mine even worse was that I had a very short perineum (not much room between the holes, so to speak).

I don't recall doing much wiping of anything, just a lot of patting, lol. I had the soft-sided squeeze bottle from the hospital that I would fill with warm water to use like a hand held bidet when needed. I never did use the Tucks. The worst of it for me was worrying about my first BM - which ended up not being a problem.

I'm a prepare for the worst, hope for the best kind of person, so I totally get where you're coming from. Have you asked your doctor how large of an episiotomy she expects to have to give you? If it's only a couple little snips you may not notice much at all.
