What to Eat on 'Bowel Prep' Day

My doctor's instructions are to eat nothing but clear foods such as jellos and broths and to drink nothing but clear drinks such as fruit juice without the pulp the day before surgery. Does anyone have any interesting suggestions for creative food ideas or should I simply resign myself to a day of jello?!

What to Eat on 'Bowel Prep' Day

Hi sister,

It is really hard to get too creative with clear liquids--I would just add ice slushies and popsicles to the list. Just stick to the clear liquids, cos once you start your bowel prep--it all has to come right back out anyway.

I know you have to follow doc's orders, but my advise is to start you bowel prep no later than early afternoon, that way you are not up have the night on the toilet. I started mine at 3pm and I was up until 2am. Just a thought.

Blessings to you as you make your way to the castle!

Don't get creative...it's not wise to mess with bowel prep!

As for the red jello, that only applies if you are having a colonoscopy as the red dye can be absorbed in the lining of the colon, making detection of abnormalities more difficult. So, if you want to eat red jello, go ahead providing you're not having a colonoscopy with your procedure...some women do, so again, follow your doctor's instructions!

Follow the instructions you've been given carefully...and don't try to get creative with eating anything. That will backfire in a most unpleasant way!

Chicken broth and Vegetable Broth can be interesting additions to a clear liquid diet. I make my own and give them flavours that I enjoy. Be sure to strain thoroughly.
