2 weeks post hysterectomy: Abdominal incision / drainage - need clarity and support

Need a better understanding of what to do to my abdominal incision post-op (6/23/17 home on 6/25/17) wasn't given enough info...didn't think to ask. Second question, wasn't given any info about drainage. I actually read about it here. How much is too much and what should I actually do? help please.

Hey there! Speaking with my
Surgeon yesterday while removing staples... Instructed to clean with hydrogen peroxide 2 times a day, keep dry and allow incision to breath. If you still have staples/stitches ok to shower, don't rub, pat dry and do not cover with bandage and wrar loose clothing. Good luck... Its definately an adventure on recovery road.

Thanks.
I begin to think there wasn't anyone else in this situation...then I found this site what a blessing. My doctor went on holiday after I was released from the hospital. So I really have only had the support of this site and the compassionate women here and I truly thank God for each of you.

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy: Abdominal incision / drainage - need clarity and support

For incision drainage- keep the area clean, dry w a blow dryer on cool, cover w a pad but let it air out during the day when you can.

Check that you are not running a temp over 100.4, the drainage should be clearish. A thick discharge that is yellow, green, brown, then you should contact your Dr, urgent care or go to ER.

Your Dr should have a Dr on call, after hours or while he's on vacation..Ir check to see if the nurse available.

This site has a recovery thread for those that had surgery the same week as you-it can be helpful. There are many articles on common recovery issues too.

Feel better. Update us..
