Anyone get any hospital bills yet?

I was so worried about what we would have to pay out of pocket before the surgery, and what insurance wouldn't cover. Thankfully, we didn't have to pay anything up front and our two insurance policies covered all but about $1,000. I estimated it to be just over $23,000 for the entire thing. It paid my doc entirely, and of course we had some at the hospital and some lab that it didn't cover. I just got a bill from a radiologist this week for a whopping $4.27!! Makes you wonder why they wouldn't just write that small amount off..
I am so thankful that we have insurance. I have only had health coverage a little over a year, and I would not have been able to even go to a doctor, let alone have surgery without it. I feel for those sisters with little or no health coverage. I went without it for many, many years. If not for my dh's job, I would still be uninsured.

Anyone get any hospital bills yet?

I consider myself blessed to be covered by our Provincial Health Plan and therefore did not have to pay a cent. Any other costs that are were not covered by the Province were covered by my workplace benefits plan. Even getting my short-term disability payments for the time I am off work was relatively easy.

I never realized until reading these posts how staggering the bills can be and all of the hassles some of you ladies go through. The fact that you can take it all in stride truly amazes me! God bless you all!

Anyone get any hospital bills yet?

It's been almost 6 weeks. I've only gotten the hospital bill $17,500. of which we owe $500. deductible & $2500. co-insurance. I'm not sure if we will owe more than that on the other bills.

Anyone get any hospital bills yet?

Well I'm constantly amazed at what is charged in the USA as it always seems like highway robbery to me. Makes me know how lucky I was to go in under the Australian medicare system. Whilst yes this system has it's own share of problems being in a rural area makes me somewhat luckier as I had the gyn I'd been referred to and was given the choice of 2 hospitals and I got excellent care at the one I chose. I walked into hospital had my surgery and to this day I've never seen a bill. I'll continue to live in the lucky country!

Take care...........Karen

You are right! It is no fun being self employed. Hope someone comes up with a better plan. The worries of the cost can get anyone sicker.

Anyone get any hospital bills yet?

Got the hospital portion of the bill - $18,400. That brings my gyn, her assistant, urologist & hospital to a total of $28,200! I haven't got anything from the anesthesiologist yet & I don't know what other ones are out there yet. Thank the good Lord for insurance! My portion (co-pay) for the whole thing is $150. I guess I won't complain so much about the $1400/month premium we pay for our family anymore. DD had an ER visit when I was 3 weeks post-op that EOB just came in on - $5015 plus $600 ambulance ride (5 minutes to the hospital). Medical costs are out of control. She fell & hit her head, lost conciousness, quit breathing - scary! CAT scan & monitoring racked up that bill. DH & I are self-employed, too, but do carry company insurance.
