Cancelled - Again 8-(

I was initially due for a abdo hysterectomy on 1 Feb but they found at the last minute (almost literally - I was about to put the gown on) that I had dangerously low platelet levels.

The last month I have been having regular blood tests and they had started to get closer to safe range, so rescheduled for 27 Feb (Mon). Today I had my last blood test - and they have dropped again. The surgeon won't risk me bleeding out.

The tests they have done so far have ruled out some possible causes such as infection, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis - and I guess now they start looking for the nasties.

I am ssooooo upset about all of this as it takes a lot of psyching to get to the point of the surgery and have it can'd twice -

Now I have to face another period, more tests and the constant wonder of what has gone wrong with my bone marrow to stop it producing platelets.

I sooo much want and need this hysterectomy - another month of pain is going to really get me down. Since having the problem with my bloods I've stopped all medication (antidepressants) and pain killers as they may have been the source.

Now all I'm left with is pain, depression and fear of the unknown. Right now it all really stinks.....

Sorry to rant, I'm all cried out and have the weekend to ponder on things before I start off with the dr's again on monday.

This has got to be soooo hard for you!

I'm hoping that the doctors soon find an answer to get those blood levels up again. I can only imagine how it would feel to have surgery cancelled twice, but at least you know your has your best interests at .

I am SO SORRY Ask the doctor if you can take a med called EPO (Erythropoietin)It is a form of a natural human hormone responsible for stimulation of red blood cell prodection. In other words it will stimulate your bone marrow to produce more red blood cells. This drug can be administered before, durring, or after a medical or surgical treatment to increase red blood cell production. They will also use iron and other hematinics at the same time to support the EPO. I hope your doc will let you take it as it will help you get your count up for surgery anyway.

Hey Jayden! I am so sorry to hear about your cancelled surgery, but I can promise you I know how you feel. My surgery was suppose to be Tuesday the 28th, and as of Wednesday the 22nd, it was cancelled. I too have a very low platelet count, due to a blood disorder known as ITP. I was suppose to have a transfusion of immunogobulin to raise my platelet count on Thursday the 23rd, but there is a natonal shortage on blood, and my doctor could not get it in time. very frustrating stuff. I feel like I am on a rollercoaster.

Jayden, and Gommy , I am so sorry that you both have had to be rescheduled. I am sending a big . At least the DR. is putting your health first. No need to take a chance. I hope they will be able to get your blood platelet level up soon. Last week I thought I was going to be rescheduled and I was a wreck, so I can almost imagine how you two are feeling. I wish you the best and hopefully it won't be long until they give you new dates....

OOPS! Sorry for the mistake Jayden. The sorry should have gone to Ros, but thanks again for listening. Ros, have you been tested for ITP? It might be something you should question your doctors about.
