Surgery Rescheduled

I went to my pre-op appt today and told my doctor that my peroid started last night, so he re-scheduled for Jan. 8. He said it would be taking a risk of infection if he proceeded with the surgery. I was all set for Monday, my nerves had eased, everyone had made plans to help me out with everything, I had already met my deductible, now I am going to have to pay more, and most of all I have to go back to that dreadful job on Monday.

But you need to be safer then sorry ..We have to trust the dr. knows best.

This happpened to me as well. I was Scheduled for Dec 6 and I was finally ready. My nerves had eased as well and I had made arrangements with work. Being a teacher, I had to plan a month of lessons and apply for the extended time. I went for my pre-op and they found a shadow on my heart and I failed my stress test. So the doctors did an angiogram only to find out there is nothing wrong with my heart. Better safe than sorry. The angiogram was this past Monday and I was out from work for three days. I teach the sixth grade, and these children are not happy with me leaving as it is. Now I am scheduled for Dec. 27. Hopefully nothing will go wrong. I just want this over.

I am sorry about that. What type of surgery were you having? Is it normal for the doctor to reschedule because of your period? I am having a TAH on the Dec 18th. I am hoping that my period does not start between now and then. I sure hope I will not have to reschedule. I am tired of waiting.

I am having a TAH. I am not sure about if its normal or not, when I told him my period had started he just said he couldn't do the surgery. I sure wish my period hadn't come, I was ready to get it over with but doc knows best. I hope all goes as planned for you.

I am now 2 days away from my surgery. I am really praying nothing goes wrong this time. I am really scared but at the same time I want all of this to be over with!

I'm sorry your surgery was rescheduled. I believe yours is the first I've come across that indicated "infection" as a reason for not operating while on your period. I, like many others on this board, have my period all the time. I wonder what would be done then.

After reading some of the post from the other ladies saying they were on there period when they had surgery, I don't understand why my doctor wouldn't do it. Now it feels like I am trying to come down with the flu. I've been aching, chills, headache and coughing a lot and I am 2 weeks away. I wondering if something is trying to keep me from doing it.

I feared getting sick too after waiting months to get everything finalized. Low and behold I have some kind of sinus thing going on. Its not getting worse, just annoying dry cough. Last week was head pressure that has now started to drain. I will be going to my doc tomorrow for her to listen to my chest to make sure she doesn't hear any weezing. I'm to go in on tuesday the 2nd.
