Advice: I am having a hard time urinating
I am one week post-op from a da Vinci hysterectomy and I am having a hard time urinating. Did anyone else have this issue? I go to my doctor on Monday and wonder if I should ask about it or if it is normal.

Re: Advice
Ask about it, making sure there isn't some injury from the catheter or surgery. Have the doc test for a UTI.
Definitely ask about it. Only the doc will know if it is normal, but seems to me that having trouble urinating, especially after surgery, is not normal.
I had the DaVinci, too. My huge uterus had pressed on my bladder and I had lots of spasms. I would have to sit on the toilet and wait for all urine to be released. Better now. But talk to your doctor . . . just in case.

Def ask about it, make sure the Dr knows and checks!
Personally, I had trouble/pain for 3 weeks.

Re: Advice: I am having a hard time urinating
This issue was one of the most FRUSTRATING things for me the day after (! ...yes; the DAY after!). It was that whole thing of knowing, "I gotta ....I just gotta pee..." And not being able to get anything going for hours....I finally had to tell myself to forget about it. Literally-not to even THINK about it, and to relax....
LOTS of water and diet coke helped as well.
Check with your doc to be sure you don't have a UTI---but otherwise, the most thing I can tell you is just to relax. Eventually, your body will remember.

Re: Advice: I am having a hard time urinating
I had a little pain urinating after surgery but I believe it was due to the catheter. Definitely talk to your doctor if you are having trouble urinating. You could possibly have an infection. I had the same type surgery as you are and I'm 20 days post-op and feeling wonderful.
Good Luck on your recovery!

Re: Advice: I am having a hard time urinating
About a week ago, I would feel like my bladder was full, but then I couldn't go a lot. I decided to drink 100% cranberry juice. Make sure it's 100% pure cranberry juice. It's very sour, but I like sour, so if it's too sour, mix it with a sweeter juice like pineapple, etc. The cranberry juice helped, & I didn't have any uti like symptoms anymore. I've decided to drink 100% cranberry juice everyday from here on out as a preventable measure. I would also ask your doctor as well.

Re: Advice: I am having a hard time urinating
You are definately not alone. The first week it scared me because I too felt like my bladder was not emptying. I also had a muchasy discharge from my rectum. Went to doc, gave me antibiotics and instructed me to drink alot of water. That got things flowing and the infection went away promptly. I also had pain sitting. The further back I got into the sitting position the worse it got. So it will get better but definately check with your doc. Healing thoughts going your way.

Re: Advice: I am having a hard time urinating
I just left the doctor and asked him about it... He tested for UTI and I don't have one he said it is fairly normal this early. He said drink lots of water and my body will figure it all back out. Thanks for all the advice.
