Anyone ask dr for ext on leave beyond 6 weeks? What did you say? What did dr say?
I would like to hear from ladies who thought they were going back to work at 6 weeks but felt they needed more time.
How did your dr react? What did you say?
I know I am not ready to go back after one more week. When I get back I will be run into the ground. I need 8 not 6.
thanks!

8 weeks
When my Dr. filled out my paper work for being out of work, he put in 8 weeks automatically. I had a SAH RSO , vertical incision. I was hoping to work part time before that though. I would ask your DR.

I was hoping to go back to work 6 weeks after my vag hyst but I'm still red spotting so there's NO way I'm going back till that's cleared (5 weeks 2 days post op).
I phoned work and said I needed an extra week. But, I may have to phone them and say I need an extra two. I
The dr should agree with whatever u say - if u feel u're not well enough to go back to work don't - your health is what's important. (Stuff work)

Anyone ask dr for ext on leave beyond 6 weeks? What did you say? What did dr say?
I went back to work at 6 weeks following TAH BSO. My doctor had said it would take 4 to 6 weeks. I was feeling good and was ready to go back.
Now that I've been back for 2 weeks I think I went back too soon. I'm exhausted and feeling like I'm suffering a set back. I feel now more like I did at 4 weeks.
When you're at work it's hard to be mindful of "taking it easy". My co-workers have been super supportive through this experience but I get the feeling they feel like 6 weeks was plenty of time and I should be able to just jump right on in there and perform like usual.
Don't rush yourself, any additional time spent resting and healing, even after you feel better, is time well spent I say.

i sometimes do a lot of standing, carrying and lifting and told doc this and said 8 weeks would be better. And thats what I got. You know how you are feeling and when you are ready- let your doc know what you want.

I was scheduled for a TAH so my Dr. automatically put in 8 weeks total disability. I work with the mentally ill and there is alot of strainious contact involved.I am 6 weeks today and still have a incision open and experiencing abdominal discomfort, so I may not be going back at 8 weeks either. I can't imagine getting kicked or punched in the gut right now. If you know you are not up to it you can always extend your disability time. It's a good posssibility that I will. We might pay for it in the long run if we don't take the time to heal.
Good luck!

I had a TAH and my dr. left it to me as far as 6 - 8 weeks. I went back in 6 and worked shorter hours for awhile. It is a big transition from home to work. I have what seems to be a desk job, but I'm up and down, picking things up and moving them all day. I never really noticed, but I did after I came back.
I would think that your dr. will agree to the extra time. Mine said all along that normal recovery is 6-8 weeks. It's not in his best interest to rush you back either.

I got 10 weeks.......my muscles were cut, so she said she could authorize it.
However.......I am a teacher and don't have to go back until the first week in August, so I would not have done anything anyway.
I do have short term disability, so I will be able to claim that for 10 weeks.

Anyone ask dr for ext on leave beyond 6 weeks? What did you say? What did dr say?
My doc gave me two months straight up without even asking he originally only told me six weeks. I think I will need it though as after a rampant first week home where ~I did much too much and am paying for it I realise that it will take time and patience to get better!
As other posts say you can only recover once so make it count!
Take care

Thanks for sharing ladies. I look back to several months ago when I first scheduled surgery and how I had sooooo many worries. Everyday at least once a day a new one popped up. And always someone here helped by sharing and supporting.
So now I don't have so many worries. It's going well and I am putting it behind me.
Still worried about how sex will go.
Going to work too soon is my most immediate worry. You girls have come through again and I am not so anxious. I will just tell my dr how I feel.
thanks dears
