2wks post-op & itching like crazy
I will be 2wks post-op morrow, I had a TAH, vertical incision & my stitches are on the inside with surgi strips on the outside. Every night around bedtime I start itching like crazy, I put a cold pak on it but it's like I'm getting immune to it. Is there anything else I can do? I feel like clawing my stomach when it starts but I know that will make it worse & it wont really help Please if anyone has any ideas let me know I'm willing to try whatever at this point.

can you take off the surgi strips on the outside? those drove me crazy, so i always take them off within days of surgery... that might cut down on some itching...

Call your Dr before you take off the steri-strips~
But those could very well be the culprit

Re: 2wks post-op & itching like crazy
I agree about the steri strips. They drove me nuts too! And really not that bad to remove if you wait for them to kind of curl up at the ends first. I also ended up having pretty dry skin after being in the hospital for 4 days, so I just used regular lotion around the steri strips on the belly...definitely not on the incision, but around to calm the skin.

Re: 2wks post-op & itching like crazy
After knee surgery, I found I am allergic to steri-strips.
They had to use another kind of surgical tape to close
my laparascopy incisions from my hyster. Worth asking
your doctor for 'next time'.

Re: 2wks post-op & itching like crazy
My dr told me not to remove the strips that they will come off on their own & it's not so much itching on the outside it feels like it's on the inside. Did anyone try an anti-itch cream around the area? I know not to put it directly on the wound but was thinking around it might help, actually my DH suggested it.

Re: 2wks post-op & itching like crazy
I have been Eucerin Calming Cream on my abdomen, but not on my incisions. My discharge nurse told me to put Neosporin on the surgical sites to keep them from getting dried out, which can cause itching.
