Surgery Just got scheduled!!
Went to the surgeon today. He did a pelvic and could not even reach my cervix because my uterus is so enlarged. He told me that since it was like that it would be much easier to just be able to do the full incision and go back through my csection scar. My date is scheduled for May 24 and have to be there at 7 a.m. I am so nervous, overwhelmed, and sad at the same time. Im sad because I feel that they are taking away my woman hood and taking "me" away.

Re: Surgery Just got scheduled!!
CP - I just joined this forum this morning - my procedure is set for early June and I too am overwhelmed and saddened about losing my "womanhood". Intellectually, we all know that having a uterus doesn't make a woman, but on an emotional level, it certainly feels that way at times. I take antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds and have set up an appointment with my therapist for a "tune up" tomorrow. (Who knows? The closer I get to the surgery I'll probably have another one!) But we will all go through this together!

Re: Surgery Just got scheduled!!
Dear sisters, your feelings of being overwhelmed and scared and sad are all common reactions when we are facing such surgery. We start to worry about all sorts of things...real and imaginary scenarios.
What helped me cope with my fears and anxieties were reading the articles section on this site. They helped me gain a better perspective on things and made me feel less alone. Please check these articles because I am hoping they will comfort you a bit as they did for me.
Hugs and best of luck. Sisters are always here for you.

Re: Surgery Just got scheduled!!
I'm glad you have a date finally, I'm the day before you......Those feelings of losing my womanhood affected me too but at the same time, I kind of felt like my womanly parts betrayed me by making me a prisoner in my own home and skin. I'm nervous and kind of overwhelmed but I've learned some breathing techniques to use with meditation and it seems to be helping me.....Wishing for all the best for us all and looking forward to being crowned a princess......

I hope you all find comfort from your support and learning here. Yes, our uterus is an important part of what makes us women, but it's only a part. I hope that all of you have a supportive partner who will listen like we do, and will help you feel the best about yourself. And if you don't there are many many women here who know exactly what you're feeling. Good luck.

thanks for replying. My husband is very supportive and always reassures me that he will be with me through this whole process as he has been with everything else. I wish you lots of luck to.

Re: Surgery Just got scheduled!!
I to take medications for anxiety and depression and now meds for high levels of my thyroid. We sat down with our children who are ages (11, 15, and 16) in which 2 of them are girls and explained the situation in which we have also been preparing them for for a while. We are always honest with our children. They don't really understand the logistics behind the surgery. They just know that mom is going through a life changing surgery and are prepared to help more after its done.
