Upcoming hysterectomy 11/13: how long to take off work?

How long does everyone normally take off work? As of now I have ask off for 2 weeks not sure if I will need anymore time than that or not? I am a nurse and work in nursing home 3rd shift. What's everyone's opinion?
Thanks

Re: work

My opinion is, yes, you will need more time off. I assume you have to physically assist patients? You will have lifting restrictions.

I had the LAVH last December. I could not lift more than 5 pounds for 6 weeks. I could not drive for 2 weeks. I couldn't leave town for 3 weeks. I'm a teacher. I went back to work at 4 weeks, but I had to beg my doctor to release me to do so. I felt like I had to return for financial reasons. It was hard. I really did need another two weeks or so off.

Hi! I just wanted to check in with you to wish you all the best with your surgery. I'm having mine the same day. Lucky Friday the 13th.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 11/13: how long to take off work?

I have a desk job which sometimes involves lifting 30-40 lb boxes in the archives area. I returned to work at four weeks - but wasn't allowed to lift boxes until six weeks. I would assume that you have to be able to catch a patient if they start to fall, or maybe even lift patients, so I would say at *least* six weeks if not eight. If I drop a box, it's a mess to clean up but no big deal. What happens if you drop a patient?

I'm having a LAVH on the 30th of November. My Dr said 4-6 weeks recovery. I have a desk job and plan on asking for the full 6 weeks. Good Luck and best wishes on your upcoming surgery!
