slowly but surely

Today is day 3 of my recovery. The gas pains are much better. My back is still killing me though. I am having trouble sleeping too. One weird thing though, it'll feel like my energy is pretty good, but then I'll go to do something, like make lunch or talk on the phone and I'm completely exhausted. I'm feeling some depression. I do have depression anyway, which I'm medicated for, but I think the surgery has somehow triggered an episode. I didnt' want to talk to anyone or have visitors on Sat. and Sun. I spoke with my sister on the phone which was tiring and when I hung up started crying. I won't be taking calls from her for awhile. I dont' need that during recovery. I have to think about myself now. I'll post again in a few days.

You're still so early into your recovery. Normal things can be very tiring right now. Just remember to rest, drink lots of water....take care of yourself..as some say, you only have 1 chance to heal right.

Best wishes

EasterLilly -

I posted a reply on one of your other threads. I had the backache and trouble sleeping too after my TVH. I got a script for Ambien, and that really helped with the sleeping, as well as taking Advil PM at night rather than the pain meds. Be patient with yourself. This is a major thing physically and emotionally. Many sisters find themselves on an emotional rollercoaster post-op. Just make sure you take good care of yourself physically, and let others help you that you can trust. Each week you will see progress, but it does take time.

Thank goodness you mentioned "emotional rollercoaster." I have been crying all day and it's good to know it's normal for post surgery. My DH has been wonderful and I am so lucky for that. Seeing as I am all over the board emotionally.

Yep! I'm 8 weeks out now, and I can tell you it does get better. The emotions hit me real hard at about 4 weeks, but got better as I was able to make it back to more of "normal" life things. Looking back, the best thing I did was to just follow the advice of everyone on the site, and Pamper the Princess! Measure your progress week by week, and you will see how each week it gets better. I'm gald your DH is supportative. Take care, and my thoughts and prayers are with you! Jen
