exercise

I had an abdominal hyster 2 wks ago. Does anyone know how long I have to wait to exercise? Also how long will my stomach be swollen? HELP!!!!!!

Your doctor will release you for exercise. The swelling can last for up to a year, but you should see progress with it as the weeks go by. Just don't get too discouraged if it does not happen fast. It is all very normal. Hope your healing goes great!

I understand you need and want to exercise. I used to do it 6 days a week prior to this surgery. But you really can't for at least 6 weeks - at least nothing more than walking. I didn't and feel great now, so honestly - I think taking the time to heal right the first time is HUGE.

It's hard at first I know - but it will get better. It was almost around the 5.5 week mark that I just felt SOOOO much better. It was like magic!

Rest now, try to embrace the time you have to recoup, it's hard - but it will go fast. Rest!!!!

I started walking more after two weeks, but didn't do much more until after the six-week mark, when I was released by my doctor. Even with the release, he warned to get back to things gradually, which I am doing now.

The swollen belly thing comes and goes for me now. My stomach was flat the day after my surgery, but has been swollen to some degree every day since. I am not sweating it because it's part of the healing process. It will go when it's healed.
