Gas pain and pressure

I am almost 4 months post op and my gas has not gone away! I have changed my eating habits and try to only eat bland foods but nothing seems to help including gas x pills. My 3 yr old grandaughter thinks its hysterical that "Grams" is passing gas all the time, however it is quite embarresing in public. Am i doomed to a lifetime of gas now or will this eventually go away?
Will this to pass? pun intended!

Re: Gas pain and pressure

I've been wondering that myself! I'm at 4 weeks post-op and gassier than I've ever been in my life. I hope it's temporary! Maybe others out their can give us some idea when they felt they were "back to normal" on that front. Please give me hope, ladies!

Re: Gas pain and pressure

Yes, me too in my third week post-op. I am hoping it is a temporary thing probably due to slightly different eating patterns. I am eating much more healthily than before - just for the initial 6-8 weeks period of recovery anyway - then I shall start having my glass of wine etc. I am trying to eat more fibre which they say can cause an increase in gas initially. The gas that precedes a BM is the worse for me.

Try Peppermint Tea - I find that really does help. A nurse at the hospital put me onto it.

Re: Gas pain and pressure

Oh peppermint tea sounds WONDERFUL right about now!!! It is also good for nausea which I have been suffering! I had totally forgot about that. It probably works well for gas also because I remember when my oldest had a touch of colic one of my good friends who was several years older than me taught me an old wives tale she learned with her kids. It was to stick one of those peppermint candies in a bottle that has warm water. Shake it really well until its all pink and give it to them. They let out the biggest burp afterwards and all is well! It was a lifesaver!

I am 1 week post op and I think I am the odd one in the bunch. I have some gas but I used to be gassier! I think the biggest mistake that I made was about post op day #2.....Trying to speed along the BM....I decided that it would be a good idea to order Taco Bell from chef DH! Ooops!

Good luck with your gas pains and I hope they ease up soon!
