Been there, done that. I keep a black cardigan at work that I can tie round my waist if necessary, and have rushed out of the office and bought changes of clothes numerous times. I've sat on the toilet and passed out with shock at the amount of blood I've lost. It always makes me laugh when magazines and books talk about a period averaging 2 tablespoons of blood. Yeah right - that's between wipe one and wipe two, not 6 days!

Daisy, I know how you feel. Aunt Flo just said good bye this morning and it will be the last one I have. I'm hoping I can save on buying underwear and sheets. I had good luck with the depends also. Alot better and more comfortable than 2 pads and a tampon! Hang in there. 's Marie 10

No kidding. I see the tiny tampons they sell in the machines in the rest room and I think, "who are they kidding." I used to be able to use those...but not anymore. My bottom drawer at work is full of super plus tampons and super plus pads, a change of clothing and a plastic bag to carry the rinsed out bottoms home in.

Hi! I'm having that same problem right now! I am home from work today because of heavy bleeding and clotting. I also have extreme light-headedness. I felt like I was going to faint while I was lying in bed! LOL! I thought I should go to the hospital, but like the post above they don't think you should go until you bleed through 4 or more tampons an hour. They told me not to use tampons, but if I didn't I would just have to sit on the toilet. The clots are so bad that it is worse than having a bowel movement (at least you can control when you have that!). I having been putting off having a LAVH, but I finally scheduled it when I started this period (TEN DAYS AGO!!!!!). They told me to continue taking iron pills--too bad they don't do to my uterus what they do to my bowels! Good luck to you!

I found out just how much my best friend was my best friend when we were on holiday together in Venice and disaster struck. Auntie Flo descended suddenly (I should've known as we always start on the same day when we spend a lot of time with each other, and it's happened both times we've been to Venice together), and by the time I'd realised and got off the hotel bed I'd gone through my clothes, the bedspread, the blanket and the top sheet. And my dear friend escorted me to the bathroom, propped me up on the toilet, fed me painkillers, then stripped and washed all the clothes/bedcothes for me. What a star! It's right up there with DH going out at 2.00am on Christmas night to find a shop open where he could get me painkillers ad chocolate milk.

Daisy,

I've had the same experience...almost passed out in the shower. These past few months I've been brought to tears many times by my period, not from PMS, but frustration with my out of control bleeding. I've even had nightmares!

Oh Ladies!
Reading through these posts brought back so many memories of that misery! I have been through all the same; and I always felt so alone. I ended up in the emergency room at one point needing five transfusions of blood. That was my deciding moment in regards to the hyst.
I never realized that so many other Women were experiencing that horrible helpless feeling of the uncontrollable bleeding & clotting...Lordy, I had so many public humiliations!
The amount of blood always had me so scared; it sure is unreal, isen't it? It is a shame so many of us have suffered alone-without even understanding what was happening. That was my case, not knowing why this was happening to me.

Life after my surgery is so much improved. It is a wonder to be free of the fear...and I am so grateful.
I feel for you all, and I wish you the freedom from your pain. It is a hard decision to have this surgery--but in my case, the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Daisy,
I read your post and also the rest of this thread. It brings tears to my eyes to think we have been through soo much. The embarassment in itself is bad but the physical pain and suffering..........well maybe it was right when they took our foremothers in, called it life or death hemorraging, and did hysts on all of them. At least they didn't have to put up with........try this, do that, wait for insurance.......the list goes on and on. I always thought I knew my body and what it was doing until the day my PA held me up to a mirror and we both pulled our eyelids down. Guess what? Her's were red and mine were completely white. I had lost soooo much blood. It took five units of blood, a d&c, colonoscopy, ablation, biopsies and here I am four years later facing what has always scared me most.......hysterectomy. Anyway.........we truly are all "sisters" here and thank you, once again, for letting me vent

OH MY GOSH, THE MEMORIES !

I feel so bad for all of you that are going through this. I remember feeling like a paint ball gun. The clots and the bleeding and a toilet or shower bright red. I Had a blood transfusion 3 years ago, a D & C in august of last year, which stopped the bleeding, and a TVH in nov of 2005 which took care of ALL my problems. I bled profusely due to Adenomyosis and didn't know I had that until my pathology report came back from my surgery. Life is so gosh darn good now !! Big hugs to all of you !

This could be my story, the heavy bleeding, the clots. The stains on my new king sized mattress. I couldn't believe I could lose that much blood and still function. The last night I worked, I took great pleasure in cleaning out my locker and bringing home the huge stash of extra underwear, pads, and tampons I kept stored there.

I'm 6 days post op, and I feel better today than I did 6 days before my surgery.

Good luck to all you ladies. You will feel so much better.
