Concerned

I'm new to this site and had an abdominal hysterectomy on 10/27/14 and have had nothing but problems. My incision busted open1 week after surgery and was steri striped back together, week 2 it busted open again so on 11/20/14 my surgeon swabbed and the results came back as E Coli. I was placed on oral antibiotics and continued until 12/1/14 when I was reswabbed for e coli. On 12/1 she changed my antibiotics from Bactrim to Keflex. Since I saw her on the 1st I have been having constant diarrhea, no fever and severe pain in my right side. I go back to see her today 12/4 to see if the e coli infection is gone or still present. My incision is still bleeding and has a foul odor which she doesn't seem concerned about. What questions should I be asking her today? I'm very frustrated and emotionally drained. Thank you for your time.

Re: Concerned

I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time
the strong antibiotics could be causing the diarrhea - maybe ask about a probiotic (maybe even yogurt can help). I hope you can get some answers (and relief) today.

I am so sorry your recovery has been so rocky. I was put on Keflex after surgery and the bottle had a warning that it could cause diarrhea. Maybe your Dr. could switch your meds? I would be concerned about the foul odor and the severe pain in the right side and think those concerns are totally legit. If it concerns you, speak up and get those concerns addressed. My entire surgery happened because I pushed for more testing when I knew something wasn't right, and sure enough, I had a super big uterus and a giant fibroid that needed to come out. I learned that I am the only one who can advocate for my body. I will pray today that your doctor will listen and take your concerns seriously and will pray that healing will start to happen soon!! Let us know what happens.
