I am so confused!!

I am a single and have never had children. I originally went to the Dr. about ablation (sp?) but as we discussed things - thought a hyst. might be the best route for me. I am not sure whether I should keep the overies ( or maybe just one) or not and also if I should keep the cervix.

I asked the Dr. what his recommendation would be and he said it is completely up to me.

Surgery is scheduled for 12/10 and at this point am feeling really stressed out due to financial issues (seeing that I will have to be off of both jobs and there is no other incoming coming in). On the other hand - I am sick of feeling like crap.

Any words of encouragement would be MORE THAN WELCOME!!

Hi, sounds like you have ALOT on your mind. I suggest you get the book "The Essential Guide to Hysterectomy". It is listed on this site also as a recommended read. It is loaded w/info. on cervix, ovaries and absolutely everything else. From the history of hyst. which I found quite interesting...to post-op issues.
If you do decide on surgery, do you have someone to help you for some time after surgery, like laundry, cooking, emotional support etc.?

I am so confused!!

I ordered the book today - can't wait till it gets here!!

My mom will be here to help for a couple of days - after that we usually get on each others nerves - I don't think I am ready for that either. I do have some friends that will stop by after work - etc. so I am not too worried about that.

Oh gosh, as helpful as my Mom can be I could not take her for more than a day or two either!
I think you will really enjoy the book. I read it (almost) cover to cover. I have now lent it to a friend.
So you had already heard about that book?

I am so confused!!

I had the exact same issue. 38 no children - history of fibroids and cysts on my left ovary and very heavy periods with bad cramping.

My doc suggested removing left ovary/tube with ablasion. After research (and a second opinion) I decided on hysterectomy (LAVH) and kept my right ovary. Uterus and Cervix are gone as well as left ovary and tube.

2 weeks post op today... so far so good

This website was really helpful http://medlineplus.gov/ Good Luck
