Health Insurance/Doctors

I have a high deductible insurance plan. I had to choose a new doctor on 1/2/2014 after learning that my doctor and my hospital became out of network on 1/1/2014. I was scheduled for surgery on 1/7/2014. Anyway, I chose a new doctor, made an appointment for Feb. 5 and printed new patient forms tonight. As I was reading them I saw that they require a credit card on file for high deductible patients...has anyone else ever had experience with this? I don't even HAVE a credit card. Going to call in the morning but I'm guessing I'll have to choose another new doctor and hope for the best.

Re: Health Insurance/Doctors

I think it must depend on the facility/doctor's office. I had a high deductible plan a couple years ago, and when I went in for an ultrasound, they wanted me to put some of it on my credit card up front, but it was not a requirement. I just waited for the bill.
I never pay anything up front because if you get overcharged, who knows if and when you'll ever get reimbursed.
Also, another time, I talked to my insurance co. before going to see a dermatologist. Insurance told me I should definitely NOT pay up front, they were very specific about it. The dermatologist's front desk insisted I pay up front because they couldn't understand a high deductible plan, and I had to very firmly tell them what the insurance told me. It.was a really good thing, because what I ended up owing was a lot less than what they wanted to charge!
Maybe call your insurance and let them know about that doctor's credit card policy, and see what they say.
