Day 12 post daVinci hysterectomy - Sciatica

Day 12 post op DVH. After my surgery my toes on the right foot felt as if they were asleep. I was told it was probably from the position I was in during the surgery and that it should go away. Well, it has never really gone away, sometimes comes and goes. Yesterday, I started having a sharp pain starting just below my butt on the right side and shooting down the leg and toes feeling tingly. The high dose ibupropin and the pain meds have not really touched the pain. It was so severe last night that I had a very difficult time sleeping. From what I have read, these are symptoms of sciatica. I've been rotating between hot packs and cold packs with little relief. Has anyone else had this happen? It is very painful, wondering if I can be doing anything else to relieve the pain.

Re: Day 12 post daVinci hysterectomy - Sciatica

Since the pain starts in your buttocks, it sounds like piriformis...which generally starts about where the pocket of a pair of jeans would be. True sciatica starts in your lower back. It is still sciatic nerve pain...the piriformis muscle contracts over the sciatic nerve and causes the pain. I have had it for years. I was so resistant to going to a chiropractor because I did not believe they were legit...finally gave in and went and he has changed my life! I am now basically pain free for the first time in 20 years. If you will "Google" piriformis, there are some simple exercises that help. I feel your pain. I have had it so bad that morphine did not touch the pain. On a good note- I am 6 months post op from a TVH with anterior and posterior repair and all is good in that area!!! Had a great and quick recovery. My only problem was a slight case of vertigo the night after surgery...found out it was positional vertigo from being at the angle you are at during the surgery.
