SILS Hysterectomy on Tuesday

Hi ladies! I am completely new to this board but look forward to browsing all of the information. I have been struggling with endometriosis and ovarian cysts for awhile now. I am in pain 24/7 and have tried just about everything my doctors could come up with and been tested for every medical issue out there. In May, I had a laparoscopy which found scar tissue from a previous appendectomy, adhesions, and endometriosis. My doctor cleaned everything up but my pain came back a month later. After many more tests and pain meds, my doctor decided to try a course of Zoladex (similar to Lupron). While the side effects have been horrendous, my pain does alleviate. We have decided to go ahead with a hysterectomy, removing everything other than my left ovary. (My right ovary and uterus are the main sources/locations of pain.)

Now that I have shared my history, I will get to the point of this post. My doctor is performing the new single incision laparoscopic hysterectomy. Apparently this is a relatively new way of performing hysterectomies, resulting in a faster recovery time. Has anyone had this form done? If so, what is your opinion about the recovery?

I guess I should also mention that I am 25 and have a four year old daughter. While I am still young, I do feel that this is the best choice for me.

Thank you ladies!!

Re: SILS Hysterectomy on Tuesday

While I did not have that type of surgery, I can tell you that anything that is safe and suitable for your needs that provides a shorter recovery is something to definitely pay attention to! I've just finished week 2 of recovery and am already itching to move forward!

Good luck to you.

Re: SILS Hysterectomy on Tuesday

Hey girl I have had the SILS procedure and I am 10 weeks post op. I feel great. I'm 46 and have two small children and a full time position. I went back to work at the 2 week mark as I have a desk job. I let my laptop at work in the cabinet. Here's the best part no one at work knows I had it done!!!!!!!!!!! So...yes I took it easy, I have a great husband who did the heavy lifting (literally) and I had to tell myself not to do things I shouldn't, but beyond that it went great. I would suggest if you do what I did, be sure to take the motrin at least 2 times a day (800 mg) for at least 6 weeks, or you will be sorry. Since I didn't rest after the two week mark all during the day. I did have to when I got home from work. Recliners are a wonderful invention.

Sending you prayers and hope.
