LAVH - June 26, 2012

I had my LAVH three weeks ago. I've had terrible periods since my second child was born in 2004. I had an endometrial ablation in 2006 and that helped with the bleeding, but not the cramps. It was then suspected that I had adenomyosis, but I was told that it could only be definitively diagnosed after a hysterectomy. By the beginning of 2012, I'd started getting my period every 3 weeks, rather than every 4 weeks. This made my life even more miserable, so I decided that it was time for the hysterectomy. I discussed it with my doctor and my husband and I went for it! I was not nervous and even felt a little guilty at being excited at the prospect of never having a period again! The surgery and recovery have been a breeze. Other than the morphine at the hospital making me sick (and having to spend an extra night at the hospital to "detox" and keep down solid food), I haven't had any problems. I only had one tiny incision in my belly button and haven't needed any narcotic pain relief, only Advil and Tylenol at times. I'm taking seriously the doctor's admonition to take it easy. My kids and husband have been very helpful and I'm really looking forward to getting back to my "new normal" in a few weeks! HysterSisters has been a great resource for information any time I've had a question - I'm so glad a friend told me about the site!
