Adenomyosis...?
For me...it was the HORRIBLE cramping and bleeding. Cramping felt like I had a dagger going up my vagina just jamming in as far as it could go..and then HUGE clots which caused heavy bleeding, and 10 days of bleeding! And it all happened within the time span of about 18 months!
One of my docs told me that I was heading into the changes...she said, "DEAL WITH IT" I listened to HER for about a year, switched docs, did birth control for about 6 months under HIS recommendation (which made things WORSE), an endometrial ablation three months prior to the hyst (WORSE yet), and ended up with the hyst about 9 months later. In the year time span, I felt like there was about 1 week out of an entire month that I felt like "ME."
Yeah, I even with a nicked bladder during surgery, I'm glad this is all past me. No periods for 2 months, and I haven't even missed it! LOL!

Not that I would ever want someone to experience this...but I am SO happy to read this! *phew* This describes to a 'T' some of the pain I've been experiencing, and I was sort of wondering if it was just me or not. For me personally, my doc suspects I do in fact have Adenomyosis, but as some of the other ladies mentioned...I was told that it couldn't be confirmed until the uterus is removed. For a couple of years now my cycles have gotten incredibly harsher. For a little over a year now, they got to the point of being debilitating. For more than a year I literally very heavily bled and clotted on an almost complete daily basis. I literally had only 2 - 4 days a month of no blood and/or spotting. It finally progressed to the point that I've literally started my 4th month straight of heavy bleeding and clotting. The pain I've experienced has been constant. Excruciating and constant! There is literally a steady heavy cramping, which sometimes goes into my lower back and usually always hurts all the way into my vagina. As if that pain is not enough though, I periodically at random times get these spikes in pain, which is what feels just as described above. Like a blade being thrusted directly into all the nerves in my entire abdominal area. It lasts for only 3 - 5 seconds when it happens, but it's the most excruciating 3 - 5 seconds I've ever experienced. It quite literally stops me dead in my tracks, causes me to uncontrollably moan in agony, and I find myself subconsciously doing lamaz breathing through it. I now am having problems with my back, which confused me a bit, until I realized that for several months now I haven't been able to walk standing up straight. I'm always in at least a slight crouch because of the abdominal pain. The past 2 - 3 weeks it has gotten the worst it's ever been. My abdomen is literally slightly swollen as if I were approximately in a 4th month gestation. I feel so bloated and heavy, like as if my uterus is just going to drop out of me any second. I have been passing such large clots that using tampons just isn't possible, so needless to say...not only does the heavy bleeding suck, but 4 months straight of wearing a heavy absorbent pad is practically torture!! (Add anemia to the table as well) Honestly...I just can't even imagine feeling good any more. I absolutely can't wait for the pathology report. I would love to know definitively whether or not Adenomyosis is the evil cause of all this. On the plus side, things are moving quite rapidly. I literally just got my surgery date on Thursday. The admissions nurse from my hospital called me today to do the whole admissions info work-up conveniently over the phone. October 3rd will be here before I know it, and as nervous as I am...I'm extremely excited as well!!!
BEST OF LUCK LADIES!

Adenomyosis...?
So good to know I'm not a wacko... we'll at least not totally. Just got done with my DS's 11th birthday party... absolutely beat! I can't believe how tired I get. I'm gonna go curl in a ball on the couch and try not to sob.
I'm really a very happy person, I distinctly remember that!

Adenomyosis...?
I in fact had adenomyosis and never had a heavy period in 34 years.
I did have extreme cramps and terrible back. abdomin and thigh pain. Severe headaches and being very very tired during my period had always been a problem.
My Dr. suspected it but it was confirmed through pathology that my uterus was riddled with it on all surfaces and through the cervix.

Adenomyosis...?
I had adenomyosis and my gyn was certain I had it prior to my surgery. I had terrible pain, continual heavy bleeding, clots, painful intercourse and the shooting vaginal pains also. What convinced him was when he asked if I had a tar like discharge at the end of my periods and I had that too. I also tried progestrone, synnarel and was to have the Mirena coil inserted but that was forgone after the large doses of progestrone and synarrel weren't providing any relief. The gyn was always convinced I'd need the hyster due to the enlarged boggy uterus anyway.
I have no regrets, I'm so enjoying life and I'm a nicer person to be around.
Take care...........Karen

Adenomyosis...?
My TVH was on 8/29 and it was one of the best decisions I made. I feel better now than I have in years. Even with the swelly belly and post op discomfort it is no where near the pain I felt pre op.
When I was 30 my gyno at that time suspected andeno. In my mid 30's I stopped having periods, diagnosised with ovarian failure due to low estrogen and serious menopausal symptoms and went on hrt, went off of it, in one month was expecting at 41 (in 2002). Since 2005 I had progressively longer periods and more severe bleeding, cramping, leg pain, pms headaches, back ache, pressure on my bladder and bowel, shooting vaginal pains, clots and would gain 10 lbs before my periods. This past year my periods would last 14 to 28 days. My last three period had two weeks of nonbleeding in between. The last two I passed out and was hemmoraging and almost ended up in the er. That was the convincing moment that I needed to have the sugery and stop delaying. My girly bits were causing too much interruption in my living life.
We knew I had endometriosis from the biopsy, fibroids, prolapse, mennoraghia and cervical dysplasia but could not confirm the suspected andenomyosis until after the tvh and a look see at the girly bits under the microscope. It turned out the andeno was deep into the myometrium and extensive. It could not have been treated sucessfully with an ablation.
It is my understanding, because the blood can get trapped in the myometrium (muscle tissue of the uterus) it does not always drain out, making the uterus spongey or boggy. You swell up with it. In my case I probably had it brewing for years. I believe I read something, and my doctor also told me, that in the earlier stages of andeno there isn't always the severe bleeding you get with endo and fibroids, but in the later stages it can cause some substantial bleeding issues.
Hope this is helpful!
Take care, blessings to you and know that you have sisters on this site to share with!!!!
Cathy
