Went for a 2nd opinion follow up right before pre op!

I have had a ton of trouble with constipation since March. After trying everything at the local "Mart", I finally got relief with Golightly and am now on Miralax. Went to all my docs, and gyn said that I needed a hysterectomy!!!!! Note: I do have a history of endo. He also stated that I had Blood in my urine and needed to see the urologist to have stents placed before the surgery. ( He thought that the endo. had grown into the ureter and everytime I urinated, it picked it up as blood- WRONG!!!!) I had those AWFUL stents put in me and NOTHING was wrong with my ureters inside, just some mild hardening on the outside. Also, I did find out that I had intercyctial cyctitis, which causes blood in the urine. The stents from hell were placed on 5-18-06. lost 10 lbs in 1 and a half weeks. Urologist was out of town on Memorial day weekend, called gyn because I could not take the pain of what I called a urinary tract infection times 1000 any more. I was sick of screaming everytime I went potty (urinated) (Note, I was on meds to help ease the symptoms - HA, HA, HA!!!!)

Anyway, gyn advised me to come in on a Sat. to check it out. After a urialysis, I had red blood cells, white blood cells, too neumerous to count in my urine! (A horrible INFECTION!!!!) He gave Macrobid for 7 days and sent me on my way. On Memorial day urologist called me and asked me if I wanted the stent out - I said YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, the next day, I went to his office and he did it in his office. (Imagine, someone fishing around in your bladder for 2 stents with this huge scope - oh the pain of it all!!!!) That was June 1st. I was suppost to keep them in till 6-20-06, because "the doctors couldnt do my hyst. till then due to scheduling problems."

I was so freaked out at that point and wondered if endo was really that bad to go through with it. Gyn just went by a old diagnostic laaroscopy repot from 98 when he decided about stents. (Another gyn in 98 did it because I had switched Dr's due to insurance reasons) Gyn in 98 saw a patch of endo on the right ureter only. So, i guess that prompted my gyn to place the stents!!!!!!!!! He did not even do a laparocopy himself to make that diagnosis, he just went by an older op. note!!!!!!!!!

I finally wised up and sought a 2nd opinion, new doc wanted to try Lupron injections, which scared me, so I left his office unsure as well. Went to a great Gastroenterologist next about the constipation problem, he helped ALOT, he did colonsocopy and all was perfect! By this time it was 6-14-06.

Went for pre op paperwork on 6-13-06, my gyn still wanted to do that hyst (take out uterus only), I was then give my paperwork and was told to go to hosp. for pre op testing on yesterday. WELL.....

After much anxiety, no eating or sleeping, I went back for a follow up to the 2nd opinion gyn. I poured my heart out and said that I just could not go through with the hysterectomy because I was so unsure about it. He was happy about my decision and is going to start from scratch with me. He agreed I was young for the hyst. (33). I have a ultrasound sched. for 2 weeks.

I am hoping this was the right thing to do. I think the constipation was from lack of fiber and water and exercise. I sure did learn alot about myself, and endometriosis through all of this. I saw how stressed I was over all of this.

What do you think? Was cancelling the hyst a good idea??

(((BIG HUGS))) rockinendo!! IMHO you need to be SURE in your heart of having this surgery done, so yes you did the right thing. If this dr comes to the same conclusion you can reschedule your surgery. If not then you will have saved yourself losing a uterus at 33. PLEASE keep us posted on what is going on!!

Don't under estimate yourself. It sounds like you did the right thing. You need to be sure this is what needs to be done before jumping in. Sounds like you found a great Dr., who will take the time to find out what is really wrong with you. Best wishes and may it be something that can be taken care of without the major surgery! And like they said above, if you need the hyster you can reschedule!

I am soooo incredibly proud of you. You knew somethng wasn't right and you followed your heart. Not everyone can find the right answer in a hyst....and it sounds like this new doc starting from scratch is just what you need. I cannot tell you how happy I am for you!
Please do not be a stranger...keep us posted on what your new doc says and how you are feeling.

I think you could be a vital source of info on this site for women who are not sure about their hysts and need a little guidance and inspiration.

heres a little party just for you and your strength...

I am glad you were able to sit down and talk to a medical professional who is understanding of your fears. I hope by starting over from "scratch," you will be able to find out exactly what is wrong and how best to treat it.

Lupron has actually been benefitial to many ladies. Often you do read more negative info about things tather than positive, as most people do not seek out places to post praise.

Many best wishes to you!
