Hopeful of having surgery date next week
Hi, i am brand new to the site. Someone I met on Parentsoup told me about it. And I am glad she did, thank Katrina. I have been going round and round with my doctor. I have had fibroids since 98, only one year after having my second son. I have been on and off the pill trying to control my bleeding, I voluntarily went off a while ago, I just hated taking birth control pills. Then I started having major problems a little over a year ago. I ended up with a D&C this past April to try and relieve the bleeding. It helped a little, May and June's periods were okay, then in July the heavy bleeding started up again. August was even worse and Sept was also bad. My uterus was the size of a 4-6 week pregnancy size in April when the D&C was done and now is the size of an 8-10 week pregnancy, I am in so much pain, I have almost like labor pains. I saw my dr. on Sept. 12 for a recheck and told him I was having the heavy bleeding again and pain. He told me to go thru another cycle and come in and have my iron checked to make sure I am not anemic. He also told me that our only alternative is a hysterectomy. I am fine with this, and want to just get it schedule and be done with it. I called the office yesterday to let them know I had pain so bad I couldn't even sit, lay down or drive. I made an appt. to see him next week, Oct. 1st. The nurse called me later in the day and told me he wanted me to go thru one more perioid, I told her "No way", and she said well this is only the 1st perioid that has been heavy, and I said No, it is the third one since the D&C, she said, "Oh, that changes things" she told me to keep the appt. with him. I really hope he listens to me and schedules this surgery I am tired of always being tired, and the bleeding and the pain. I want this done.
Sorry so long for my first post.

Paula, WELCOME ABOARD
Happy you are here, and hope you read through all the pre-op articles and posts. There is so much support here and someone has been through whatever it is the rest of us can think up. This is great. Medline and WebMD can give you the nuts and bolts but they can't tell you what it feels like and through the experiences of others we learn we are not crazy, not alone, and that even the crazy things like crying at the Hallmark comercials is normal.
What I really want to applaud is your sticking up for yourself with the nurse. I know nurses can be intimadating and overbearing and try to get you to do things that fit the schedules better, But YOU, princess- to-be were PRO-ACTIVE.
Something I push all the time. Because no one cares about your health more than you do.
My vicodin has finally hit and my brain just went in to fade-
So welcome and ask your questions and hang in there...
Dilu

good job!
Like you my Dr gave me what I think as the BIG runaround. I am also new here and was just diagnosed with adenomyosis abouta month ago and I am scheduled for the castle on 9/29. My long time family gyn had me go to a GI, have ct scan, tests on my thyroid, pituitary gland , and some more useless tests. I have always had painful long periods butafter my daughter was born a year ago, they slowly became worse and the pain is now a constant thing, I told my Dr that I know my body and where the problem was and if he didn't do a laparscopy I would find a new Dr.
Well he thoght I should wait one more period to see what happened, I didn't. The next day I found a Dr that specializes in pelvic pain and WOW he did a mri and found what was wrong the same day. If push comes to shove find a new Dr, your health is much more important. Sorry so long and good luck!
