Feel so alone/discouraged

I'm feeling so alone as I am having a total hyst/BSO but I also need to have many inches of my sigmoid colon removed at the same time as I have a mass of endometriosis on my colon. I also have something called intersitual cystitis, so need bladder work done too. The urologist said they will stretch my bladder two twice it's normal size. All I can think of is, "Ouch." I'm more scared of having part of my colon removed then the hyst itself, but having so much done at once is scary for me. Has anyone else had to have part of their colon removed with their hyst? Or any other intersitual cystitis sufferers out there?

I had ulcerative colitis in December so setting my surgery date was once more put on hold. I will have a colonoscopy at the hospital on Mon. Feb. 4th to make sure it is healed up. If it is healed up then I will finally get my surgery date this coming week. That will make me happy to have a date. although I know that I will shed a few tears as it will make it all the more "real." I'm sure many of you can relate when you were given a date.

I have faith in God, but like everyone, I'm human and my faith is being tested. I believe that God will bring me through this and it does help so much whenever I hear of one of our hystersisters who has come back from the castle and are doing well I have a little 6 year old daughter and I am looking forward to being able to play and be more of a fun mother for her post surgery. I'll try to focus on the positive future, but right now I just feel alone. I love this site as it has helped me immensely when I get these alone feelings. So thanks everyone

Dear Jerianne,

I didn't have colon or bladder surgery, so I can't provide any insight into that. I do want to let you know that you're not alone. Your Hystersisters care very much about you.

I hope your surgery will go smoothly, and that you'll be feeling much better soon. I hope you'll feel free to vent when you need to, and please let us know how you're doing.

Some of the ladies in the Road Less Traveled forum may have more experience with the type of surgery you're describing. You might want to ask some questions there. And there's no place more supportive and caring than the Aching Hearts forum, so you may want to visit there, too.

I'll keep you and your family in my daily prayers.

Best wishes,
princessh

Oooh, poor kid. That is a lot to deal with.

There is a sister here someplace who had her hyst about a month ago (+/-) - she had something like 18" of her colon removed, I think also because of endo. Last I heard she was doing remarkably well - posting things like "Should I be feeling this good?"

Try searching for "colon" on the post-op board, and see if you can find her.

Wait... here's one of her posts:

{{HUGS}}}

This is such a scary and emotional time...of course you feel alone and worried! But you are NOT alone. We are all here to help you, every step of the way. You keep reading and posting, and we'll get you through this.

I also have a six year old daughter...she was a great little helper and nurse...we did alot of reading together and playing on the bed while I was recovering, and sat outside and blew bubbles...it was a great time because I had the time to just sit and BE with her.

And yes, now we can do much more of the stuff you're too tired or too sick to do now....it's so worth it. Hang in there, and soon this will be behind you and you can be the mom, woman, friend, and person you WANT to be....it will be FINE!!!

Love to you

colon/hyst surgery

Hi Jerianne,
Gosh, I really feel for you. I had similar type of surgery. I don't know how much they messed around with my intestines and to be perfectly honest, right now I don't want to know. I was getting my period from my rectum, blood clots and all...are you? Very painful, and I didn't really have much of a choice. I want to tell you something though. I was a mess down there apparently, with loads of endemetriosis...I'm perfectly fine right now...well, as fine as I can be after surgery 3 weeks ago. I made the mistake of not really watching what I ate and had excruciating, white knuckle, stomach pains, from digestion etc. Correctol and too much senokot was the worst thing that I could have taken, a consistent intake of a natural mild laxative seemed to work better for me. I was quite scared too but I went in with my head held high...and maybe my knees knocking together a bit, and just let them take over, after a bazillion questions. I woke up in a lot of pain and not able to breathe, but as I told another lady, I did smoke up to my surgery date. The nurse came over and gave me a pain killer and I mostly slept thru the whole thing. It wasn't that bad at all. About 3 days later when they changed to a non narcotic pain killer, it was enough for me. By then the pain had subsided a great deal. Everything worked out fine and here I am, feeling a bit of pain, but only for you...you'll be fine.
Please take this as nothing more than my own personal experiences and not as any kind of medical advice...hugs to you(H)
