How long off work?

Hi, I am new to hyster sisters, I will be going in for hysterectomy soon, still don't know when waiting for surgery date from gyn office. I have HMO so it takes a while. I actually work at a womans gym, so I am in pretty good shape I guess for my age. My boss keeps asking me when I'll be back to work, which I don't know exactly for sure. I know I will talk to doctor about when to return to work. Boss keeps saying oh you can come back in 3 weeks but no strenuous work or lifting. Hmmm, I feel pressured. What do you thinK?

How long off work?

Hi (((Spunky))))

When I first found out I needed a hysterectomy, I wasn't in a financial position to be off work for 6 works. At the time, I asked my doctor if it would be possible for me to return to work after 3 weeks, providing I did light duty. His reply was immediate: no way. I would need six weeks of recovery, at home.

Of course, we're all different and all have different procedures and this is really something you'll need to discuss with your doctor. When you do, please be sure to mention the type of work you do and just how much straining and lifting is involved.

I do wish you the best of luck with your surgery

How long off work?

I am having a TLH and dr. said I could probably go back as early as 2 weeks. I chose to take 4 weeks off.

don't hurry

I was 8 weeks, no income coming in, but let me tell you, no way could I have done it. I am on my feet 10 hours a day, so that dosent help, but......
When they say 6-8 weeks, they mean it.
PLEASE dont let guilt put you in a position you can't get out of. Better to say 6-8 weeks and if it works out to be 6 great! If not, then you have that cushion. This is your time to heal, not be trying to reassure your boss you'll be back to make it easier for him!

How long off work?

I'm going to try to go back next Monday, it will be two weeks. I'm a computer programmer, so I'll actually be working next week from home, loging into our systems remotely. I have a 50 mile commute, so there's no way that I'll be attempting that soon.

My job doesn't have any physical labor, so hopefully I'll be able to pull it off. I only had four days notice that I'd be going out, so I really left my co-workers in a lurch.

If I can't do the eight hours then they'll take anything I can give them. I've actually put in a few half days this week....

How long off work?

I was told 6 weeks but ended up having 10 weeks. Even then it was tough going back.

How long off work?

Like Duchess0707, I went back to work telecommuting fairly quickly, but I could only work an hour or two at a time before I had to go horizontal for awhile.

I highly recommend you use your doctor to provide your boss with authoritative information on your recovery time, even if this means a letter from your doctor's office stating in no uncertain terms the minimal recovery time and recommending half days when you do return.

As a certain famous Canadian said in a movie, "Always tell them it will take twice as long as you think it will. Then, if you fix it sooner, you're a miracle worker."
