Two Doctors?Uro and Gyn

Now this may sound like a silly question, but here goes: I'm having a hysterectomy (LAVH - LSO)fine and good, but then I'm also having a "spark". Cute word for a bladder lift. Now why do I need both a gyn. and a urologiest? I haven't seen too many people have two Drs. Usually it seems like the gyn. can manage to do this.

I've also seen where many people that have a swollen uterus like I do and have bladder problems, don't have any problem after the hyst. I tested posistive for "stress incontinence", but they said it wasn't that bad - so it makes me wonder if I really need it or it will go away on its own.

Technically, I'll go for the surgery anyway on June 27, because it took over 4 mon. to get the two Drs. schedule coordinated, and I don't want to wait any longer, but I haven't seen too many other people that have had to have two Drs.

Two Doctors?Uro and Gyn

Hi Roo456,
I had TVH with the Sparc also. It is very smart to have both a GYN and a Urologist since they are both specialists in their own areas. I had a Urogynecologist, which is a GYN with special training in urology. She had another GYN assist her during surgery. Although some GYNs seem to have good experience with other female pelvic floor issues, many do not. Lots of women have a hysterectomy without having the other issues attended to and then have to come back for further surgery. Better to have the bladder sling at the same time as the hysterectomy in my opinion.

You said you test positive for stress incontinence. I assume by that statement that you've had urodynamic testing to come to that conclusion. If so, I don't think it will go away by itself. If you have not had urodynamic testing and have doubts about the need for bladder sling, I would request the testing. It is fairly simple and takes only an hour or so. Mine was done in the urogyn's office. You've got plenty of time since your surgery isn't until June.

Good luck.

Two Doctors?Uro and Gyn

I had an LAVH/BSO with a TVT. The hyst was done by a GYN and TVT by the URO. While my cystocele was minor, I am so glad I had it done all at once. I can't believe the difference. It is wonderful to cough, sneeze, laugh etc. without dribbling everywhere. My babysitter said that her GYN did her repair and she leaks worse than ever. Therefore, using a URO is probably a good idea.

I'm having that done on Monday. My doctor is a urogyn, so I'll only have the one doc. He is awesome. He has been doing these for 10 years.
