Advice needed - now or later?

Hi everyone, I'm back Thought I would update the thread now everything is over.

Well, I decided to postpone the hysterectomy in favor of the safari. It was incredibly awesome. Words can't describe the feeling of being in the beautiful, pristine wilderness of Botswana, and seeing wild animals mere yards away. Here are some pictures:

However, the fibroids definitely got way bigger during the three months I waited. I still didn't really have any pain or bleeding, but definitely felt very bloated at times, especially just before and during my period.

I went to see the doctor the day after we got back from Africa, and scheduled the surgery in 2 weeks (last Friday, July 1). Turns out the uterus was the size of a football (!!!) and equivalent to 18 month pregnancy. He had to remove the fibroids before he could get at the uterus through the transverse incision, it was so huge.

But, everything else is fine, the fibroids are just fibroids (no cancer), and I'm out of the hospital less than 48 hours!! I've been on just ibuprofen since yesterday and feeling fairly well -- slow, but not really in much pain unless I laugh or caugh. Very very relieved the whole thing is over. Now I can plan my next trip to Africa and I will enjoy it even more w/o these ****ed fibroids

Thanks for everyone's help and all the information on this board. It helped me make the right decision for me -- something that was really very difficult. I purposely did not read this board in the 2 weeks between our vacation and the surgery because I didn't want to scare myself. But now I'm out of the hospital, the first thing I did when I got home was to read these boards. Have already got some great advice (hubby just went out to buy some Smooth Move Tea ).

Again, thanks. For those of you needing to make similar decisions, for what it's worth, my surgery was not nearly as bad as I had imagined.

Judy

great pics

Your pictures are awesome. I am glad that you are doing well and that there was no cancer. I had the same situation. I could wait (doc said maybe a month or two), but decided to go sooner. I had my surgery in early June. Although I did have uterine cancer, it was early stage and nothing further needed to be done.
Hope you have a good recovery. Pamper yourself and let everyone around you do the same for you.
