Registered for surgery

I went and registered for my surgery today and the nurse asked me if I was going to have a epidural.

I have had two kids and have never had one before and frankly having someone mess with my back freaks me out.

I do throw up when coming out of anesthesia & I told them that so it is on my chart.

What are the pro's and con's of having epidural for this surgery?

TIA

Re: Registered for surgery

Hi there! I didn't have an epidural for my abdominal hyst, but I did with my last pregnancy. That was almost 16 yrs ago. I had no prob with it. Yes, it feels strange. Mostly pressure. sure wish they could've given me an epidural for my TAH because I throw up too. Because of that I busted some staples. I had the same fears you do. It helped me to focus on any object or loved one. I'm sure you'll
be fine. Will pray for you!

I can't answer your question about the epidural, but I can suggest that you ask your doctor about the scopolamine patch for nausea. It is placed behind the ear before surgery and remains for 3 - 4 days. Works well on many people to prevent post-op nausea.
