Pre qualifying doctor for hysterectomy

Hi all, does anyone know how to pre-check a doctors experience in LAVH and/or robotic hyster?

How do we find out how many operations our Dr. has performed so as to feel confident in his experience? Any suggestions? Do I just ask his secretary?

I would ask the doctor or the doctor's nurses. Some doctors and/or practices have a website with information on it about what services that they provide. Some might even had information available in their waiting room or office. I was lucky and one of my prior gyns refered me to my current office since they knew that he had experience operating on people with AVMs.

You are wise to research your doctor. Hysterectomy is a major surgery and different doctors have different techniques and skills. It's important to be comfortanle with your surgeon and confident that he is the right doctor for you. A second opinion can be very valuable in this regard also.

I live in a city of about 70,000 that I laughingly describe as a "village in city clothing." Everyone seems to know everyone else, or at least to know someone who does. So if I wanted to find out more about people's experiences with a specific doctor, I would just ask various other women of my acquaintance what they'd heard about Dr. So-and-so. It wouldn't take too many asks to get some information. Women who hadn't seen this doc themselves might still have mothers, sisters, friends, etc. who'd seen the doc.

Keep in mind that opinions can vary from person to person. You're always going to get that one outlier who had an awful time. What you're looking for is the *general* opinion.
