Adenomyosis - Wait & See or Hysterectomy

So, I just had a lap and was diagnosed with Adenomyosis (as much as possible without post-hysterectomy biopsy). Prior to surgery, my doctor was fairly convinced that I did not have Adenomyosis, so for him to have changed his mind, it must be very obvious.

He wants to wait at least 6 months to see if my symptoms improve with endo removal and mirena. My understanding of Adenomyosis is that even if my symptoms are managed, my uterus will still be enduring ongoing damage. I already have sub-fertility, so with that in mind, what are the advantages and disadvantages of having the uterus out (keeping ovaries) rather than waiting?
