Help surgery in 3 weeks!

I just found out my surgery is scheduled for 10/13 (when I wasn't suppose to have it until 1/2004). What do I do first to prepare myself??? What do I need to do. I have only 3 weeks. Thanks for any help.

Help surgery in 3 weeks!

Hi Judy,
Well, while it is a bit of a shock to have the date moved up , in some ways it is better not to have a longer wait... it is a mixed blessing....

You don't say if you know exactly what type of hysterectomy you are going to have....

Why don't you take a look at the pre-op articles and see if they prompt you to ask any specific questions?

You will want to have a list of questions for your doctor for what you have to do just before the surgery, and what he will tell you NOT to do after the surgery.
(we have a list of suggestions here too!!)

You will want to prepare your "recovery area" - the place you think you'll be spending the most time after surgery.

have a look at the articles, and then see what you feel you still need to know.
you can find them at :https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...hp?forumid=170

there are also the post-op articles you might want to check out:

best wishes,
Cheryl

I'd also suggest you start preparing for your homecoming--if you work, or even if you don't, you'll need your stand-ins for everything you used to do: cooking, washing dishes, housekeeping, babysitting, etc. I planned meals that my dh and dd could fix themselves or with my verbal assistance, and we've eaten quite well these past few weeks. I'm president of our teachers' union, and the best thing I ever did was get my exec board together and delegated various aspects of my job--who was going to deal with personnel problems, with the school board campaign we're running, with meetings with administrators, with health benefits, etc. Once I delegated virtually everything, those people stepped in and have done a fantastic job. So if you're working outside the home, get your colleagues ready for your absence.

I love to read, so the day before I went to the castle I went to the library and checked out LOTS of books (I read fast) so they were available for when I came home.

I rearranged my bedroom so I could watch tv from bed easier.

I made arrangements with my dh to make the phone calls to family, and made a list of names and numbers (does it seem that it's US who know these things and not our dh/so?) for him to use.

That's about all I can think of right now. Good luck! Before you know it you'll be a princess!
