Polys, fibroids and D&C

Hey everyone. I haven't posted in a while because I thought my problem was "fixed".

I'm 43, and had a D&C in Januray. I had very heavy bleeding for over a year or so, but more or less regular periods every 28-31 days. The bleeding was to the point that I was severly anemic, and I would bleed through a pad within an hour or so, sometimes sooner. I also had lots of clots.

An ultraound was done last fall, and there were fibroids found, the largest around 6 cm. The D&C found a polyp that covered 40% of my uterus. I'm now to the point where the bleeding has gotten as heavy as it was before, I'm having lots more cramps, and I'm having to urinate much more frequently especially on my period. It's to the point where I'm afraid to cough or sneeze! I'm also terrified of having a huge bleed-through at any given time.

I have an appointment with my GYN tomorrow. Last fall, I had an endometrial biopsy before the ultrasound, and it was normal.

Guess we'll see where to go from here??

Polys, fibroids and D&C

Difficult making these kind of decisions, especially with all the "what ifs" involved. I hate gambling, especially knowing that there will be no cash windfall.......LOL!

I tried to hold off as long as I could, knowing that a hysterectomy was going to be enevitable for me. Guess I was waiting on the invention of even better surgical techniques, or even the false hope that if I made it to menopause, those darned fibroids would stop growing inside of me.

Well..............in my case.............waiting made my surgery more messy. Difficult for the surgeon to unpack me, not to mention the likelihood of more adhesions as a result of all the manipulating that had to be done in there. Wish I had not waited so long. BUT.................hindsight is always 20/20, as they say.

That was my experience. We are all different. I do not envy you being in that decision-making process. Sounds like you are very knowledgeable, and continuing to do your homework..................that shall help you more than anything else.

Take care, Sister............s......Deb

Thanks!

Thanks, Deb!

I saw my dr this morning. We are trying birth control pills, he gave me 3 months of samples. I go back in September.

He recommended the ablation (sp?), but said that would hinder my ability to have children. I adopted my daughter, and I'm single, so that wasn't really my plan anyway.

He mentioned hysterectomy, and I asked about fibroid removal. He said that the recovery time is essentially the same for both, and that fibroids could grow back.

Well see what happens!
