7 weeks post op - still spotting/bleeding after hysterectomy

My LAVH with robotic assist was performed 11/18/15 due to enlarged fibroid cysts. I was able to keep my ovaries, but everything else was removed.

I have had spotting and some bleeding since the surgery. As a result, I have had physical exams at 4 wks and 6 wks. My doctor says I am healing fine and there are not signs of granulation. This has put me at ease afterwards until the next time I start bleeding. Then the worry begins anew. It seems the norm is for spotting to stop within 2 - 4 wks, so what is wrong with me??

At the 6 wk appt, my doctor said I could slowly begin increasing activity and exercise, but I'm a little scared. The last bleeding occurred two days ago after an uncomfortable BM - no straining or pushing, but had not gone the day before, so assume that is why uncomfortable. The bleeding never lasts long, but bright red, so I feel I'm moving backwards rather than forward. My next appt is at 10 wks to check progress.

Has anyone else experienced this? I was so looking forward to this hysterectomy and now...well, still think it was the right decision, but feeling more stressed now than I did before.

Thanks!

Re: 7 weeks post op - still spotting/bleeding after hysterectomy

yup- I've had mine on 11/23. Doc says that the stitches will dissolve around the 6 week period and to expect more bleeding then- which happened to me. I did freak out as it was real blood, and quite a bit- in squirts. not continuous.
I notice I tend to bleed after a workout gym session, maybe there's more straining maybe? I did get an a emergency appt for my doc and he checked me and said everything was ok and healing fine. sounded really gross but what he said was that there were some blood clots that formed behind the stitches during surgery. And when the stitches dissolve, these blood clots will then be released. makes sense- just your body cleaning it out.
But I just hated the smell of the blood... and it happens only when i bleed. It's so strong. But he also said it's normal. So that's why they said 8 weeks recovery I guess!

pumpkin123,

Thank you for your reply. It is nice to know I'm not alone, though I do not wish this on anyone. Even if all is okay, it still causes some amount of stress. I'm a couple days away from the 8 wk mark and still spotting. The times I've bled, I can smell the blood odor, as well. I hope we are both through with the bleeding/spotting very soon!!
