Tips for enema use
Well, I went out and bought all my pre-op items at the drug store. One of those included an enema bag. The doctor's office is going to give me a packet of some kind of soap to add to 1000cc of water in the bag. I'm a little nervous now after seeing how much water is in 1000cc. I've never done an enema before so I'm not sure what to expect.
Is it easier to do this in the shower or sitting on the toilet? Any tips? I'm determined to follow my directions exactly and I'm worried I'll spill something or get sick or something.
Not a pleasant subject I know, but I didn't see it addressed anywhere else.

Tips for enema use
Swank;
They should give you instructions with the "soap".if not, ask. I have only heard of the OTC type like Fleet. Those you have to lie down for I believe. Luckily, I did not have to do any type of prep. Good Luck

Tips for enema use
I did a Fleet enema which is already mixed and measured. I'm not sure about the bag one.
I put a towel down on the bedroom floor near the bathroom and laid on it and did the enema that way.
When I felt things were "working" I got up and sat on the toilet.
It took a little while, so I was curling my hair while on the toilet (not recommended for everyone).
Good luck!

Tips for enema use
Hi swank,
The soap is castil soap. It is called a soaps suds enema. Use only luke warm water, the anal tissue is very tender, to warm can cause burning while too cool can cause cramping. Once your bag is to the amount ordered release the clamp and "prime" the tube until there is no air in it. Lay on your left side insert the tube about 3 -4". Start with the bag only about 3 inches above, then slowly rise it to about 12 inches. If it was ordered high raise it to 18 inches. If at any time cramping starts lower the bag slowly until cramping subsides. If it doesn't subside then continue the lower the bag and then clamp and remove the tube. For best results hold it in as long as possible but know that usually isn't very long. Have a clear bath to the bathroom.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Tips for enema use
Hi again swank,
Sorry I needed to come back and add to lube the tube with a water soluble lube such as KY jelly. It just popped into mind.
'
Also lay a towel underneath you to prevent the bed from accidentally getting wet while trying to do the enema.
Good Luck
