Perimenopause and hysterectomy

Hello all,
I am a newbie to HysterSisters and have a question..I have been perimenopausal for about 4 years, my GYNO and I have discussed a hsyterectomy in passing, basically, but now some things have come up that are just enough for me, tired of trying BC pills that make me crazy, have all the symptoms of menopause, and until recently have had normal periods, now I am having 2 periods a month And they are like a week a part! My question is, if I have a hsyterectomy, will those things subside? I guess I mean, I am already going through menopause basically, will this help with all of those things? Just wondering what people think.

Re: Perimenopause and hysterectomy

If they remove the entire uterus including cervix, you won't have more bleeding. If you keep your ovaries you'll continue on with natural menopause, whatever that's been for you, hot flashes or whatever. If you remove your ovaries you'll hit surgical menopause and probably more of what you've been experiencing. So removing your uterus only helps stop bleeding and related pain. Good luck with your choice.

Re: Perimenopause and hysterectomy

Are you on HRT now? If you are, you'll still need it. If not, then you may find you want to start on it. Your menopause symptoms won't get better and probably would be worse without ovaries.

Re: Perimenopause and hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is major surgery. The recovery can be rough and it may put you into surgical menopause if your ovaries stop functioning. I understand that surgical menopause can be a lot worse than going into it naturally. You ask if your symptoms would subside.... it would stop the bleeding but the rest depends on how your body or your ovaries do after the surgery. You could end up in better health but there is the risk that things could be much worse. Please do your research or get a second opinion from another doctor. I hope this helps.
