Hi, I had my op on 12th September 2005 (TAH/BSO) and have been feeling very well up until now however yesterday i cooked 300+ Christmas dinners in a school and today I am very sore, not a sharp pain but a dull ache. A friend of mine had the same op as me and she thinks i should see my surgeon asap, i think that maybe i am over racting and don't want to waste his time, what do you think??
thanks for listerning

Go see your doctor, please, and ask for a thorough exam just to be on the safe side. That is alot of work to do even though you are approx 3 months post op.

Good Luck,

I would certainly give the doctor a call for reassurance. That sounds like you were on your feet and active for a long time. It may be just a reaction to doing too much, but your doctor is the best judge of that!

Cheers

I agree with everyone else. I just found out yesterday why it's important to take it easy after an abdominal incision. It turns out that the fascia which is incised and dissected off of our abdominus rectus is only at 40% strength (this is the layer that holds our muscles in and gives strength to our body) 8 weeks after surgery and it takes a full year to reach its maximum strength and apparently is never quite as strong as it was before surgery. I went ahead and lifted 30-45 lbs several times in my store the other day from an overhead position and then carried these boxes another 30-40 feet. I paid with the same dull ache you're talking about and was told I had strained my fascia. Hopefully in both our cases we haven't caused any internal long term problems (and most likely haven't-Doc says a ripped fascia is moe of a searing pain) however the above is WHY we're supposed to ease in to things. Please call your Doc and ease your mind.

Whatever you do Jackie, don't go to my doctor. He told me that 3 months is enough time for any surgery to heal and that I can go back to normal activities now. I asked if there were any lifting restrictions and he said no, none at all. If the pain continues, have it checked out, I'd be interested to know what your doctor says.

Hi, spoke to my surgeon he doesn't think it is anything to worry about he told me to make an appointment to see him next week and told me not to cook anymore christmas dinners until he has seen me so no worries there will let you know what the outcome is.
thanks everyone for your answers
