LAVH 8 weeks post hysterectomy torn vaginal cuff

Hi. I had my 8 week post-op appointment this week, and while my doctor was doing the exam my vaginal cuff tore and had to be surgically repaired. This appears to be a risk factor of a robotic surgery that I wasn't really appear of or didn't fully understand. Has anyone else had a tear of the vaginal cuff? Did you have surgery to repair? How long was full recovery?

We are very glad you've joined us here. I am so sorry that your vaginal cuff tore! This is a risk factor whenever the cervix is removed and the end of the vagina is sewn shut; however there is a higher risk of this happening with robotic surgery.

The extensiveness of the tear will dictate how much longer you will need to heal; if the whole vaginal cuff was repaired you will likely go back to Day 1 in your healing. If only a few stitches tore, then the healing may be shorter. Some doctors will put their patients on longer restrictions after a tear - possibly 12 weeks - to help ensure better healing.

Make sure you are clear regarding your healing time and what your specific restrictions are. If you are unsure, please call your surgeon for clarification.
