Am i still going to have PMS?

Silly question...i have my ovaries, but no uterus or cervix as i am a 1 week post op princess...my question is am i still going to have to deal with the cramps, fatigue, migraines, and backaches that always accompany my PMS? It should all start next week if so, and i just dont know what to expect. I know im not going to have anymore periods so i hope no more PMS, but does my body know that?

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

Here's what I'm thinking. I too kept both my ovaries. My doctor was not too convincing that the PMDD symptoms would go away (ovaries still make hormones fluctuate), and from what I've learned on here is your ovaries can actually take a month or two post op to resume working "normally" if they are going too. Here's what I've experienced so far....This week and next would normally have been my time of "he**", and last week my series of mental breakdowns. I will say so far so good. I did have one day that I wasnt sure I was handling things well, but not to the severity of the past 5 yrs, and I did find myself over emotional (but with all that has just happened on the emotional side is to be expected. So, I will continue to monitor my moods for the next few months, and If that returns to unbearable again, I guess I will be back to the doctor. I have read on here that most people are much better than they were, but not completely "cured", but able to be tolerated at least. Hope this helps and good luck to an uneventful recovery

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

I have found that I have mild symptoms, almost not noticeable. I too kept my ovaries. The biggest difference is that i no longer have that achy, bloated feeling. For me, this was the best decision, i feel soooooo much better.

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

By this time of the month I would have had mood swings like crazy, headache, bloating.. the whold nine yards. So far, I've had a headache but it wasn't nearly as bad as it was before and that's been it. I also have a head cold which could explain the headache too. My Mom had a hysterectomy in her early 30s. I asked her the same question before my surgery and she told me that she still had some PMS, but it lasted less than a day and it was over.

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Im hopeful that mine- if i do have any at all- will be as minor as ya'lls (yes im from east texas...using ya'lls lol). Im just one week post op and still soar from that so the thought of having to deal with PMS on top of that was a bit scary. Im glad i asked. Thank you.

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

I usually get migraines prior to my peroid and haven't had any since surgery. I am knocking on wood right now, but this would be a huge lifestyle inprovement for me. I usually had migraines for 2 or 3 days with my peroid. Haven;t noticed any other PMS symptoms either now that I think of it!!!

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

The only symptoms I noticed was the sore breast and enlarged cysts in my breas-t. I can deal with that over the everything else that would occur during that time

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

I agree with the sore breasts but so far no migraines. Fingers crossed.

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

I have been having PMS every since my hysterectomy almost 10 years ago. For me, some months are worse than others. I generally do not have backaches or cramps, though ovulation can be a bit painful at times. I do have the fatigue, sore and swollen breasts, munchies/cravings, grouchiness, etc. Initially I did have hormonal migraines as well.

My symptoms are worse post hysterectomy but we believe it is because my birth control pills were minimizing my symptoms prior to surgery.

For anyone with intolerable symptoms, talk to your doctor about your options.

Re: Am i still going to have PMS?

What I have been experiencing (14 weeks post-op/kept both ovaries) is the emotional side of PMS. I go through the instant rage or weeping for no apparent or at least insufficient reason. What I find un-nerving is that it seems to sneak up on me now and I get confused why I am so mad or sad. I have gone back to keeping track of my cycle just so I will know what is coming.

Hang in there...it does get easier!
