Lifting - So mad with myself!!

I am just past 6 weeks post op and was doing fine - till yesterday when I did the most stupid thing.

The fact is I was feeling so well, no pain, no nothing that when a friend visited with their 18 month old baby - you've guessed it - only went and picked her up (the baby that is). Ouch!

Can't beleive I did it. I have spent the past 6 weeks being ]sooo careful about not picking things up, then I have a complete head loss and pick up one of the heaviest things I could have done - she is a very sturdy child.

So yesterday was spent lying around - again! just when I thought I was getting away from all that - to try an minimise the damage. Today I am still sore, like I was at 3 weeks, especially on my right side which feels very uncomfortable with stabbing pains coming and going. I am hoping it will all settle down again in a day or two.

I could kick myself. I just didn't think.
Has anyone out there done anything equally as stupid? Come on guys confess and make me feel a little better!!!

Lifting - So mad with myself!!

Hi lydford
I'm sorry to hear you're hurting like this. Hopefully it is just a strain and everything will settle down and be fine. It's so easy to underestimate ourselves and the effects of six weeks of doing almost nothing.

One time during my recovery a friend brought us a meal and had it all neatly packed in a basket. Before I thought better of it I picked up that basket. I knew immediately I had made a mistake. Everything turned out fine, but I suffered for a few days for that one too.

Even once you are released by your dr it's important to rebuild those abdominal muscles to help avoid hurting yourself when you start trying to add back in activities.
You might want to try some heat where it's hurting right now. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I'm 11 weeks out, and shovelled some light snow and pop - tore scar tissue , and feel the same as you -as though I am back at week 2 or 3... I was so careful too, and felt great. I guess I wasn't careful enough! But, yeah, I feel really stupid too.....
