This is a pre-op visit????
My doctors version on Pre-op was to see if my tumor had grown. (it had, we seen it in the ultra sound) and to tell me more about the surgery.
There was no EKG, though I had one last year.
No blood drawn (had that done last year too), no xrays or peeing in a cup.
This seems very unusual considering most of the letters I have read here have more involves pre-ops.
I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. My BP is normal.
But I'm confused.

Call your MD office back
and ask for a more detailed explanation. Say that you are aware most hospitals require some baseline labs done preoperatively, especially if nothing recent has been done.
The only thing I had to do was to be typed and cross matched in case I needed a blood transfusion (I didn't) and a CBC (complete blood count) which gives a snapshot view. That was all. I had had an EKG done 7 mos prior before an outpatient hand surgery so didn't need to repeat that because of my age (45) and medical history (no documented heart problems). I didn't require a chest xray, again probably because of my age, history, and condition.
When in doubt or unsure... ask. Was the MD planning of having anything done upon your admit on the surgery day? Some places to just that. Check it out.

Maybe you also have a hospital pre-admission?
Perhaps you also will be having a hospital pre-admission done where some of these tests will be done. However, I agree, check with your doctor's office so you know what to expect.

This is a pre-op visit????
The pre-op is usually done in the hospital. I didn't see my doctor at my pre-op, but I did get to meet the anesthesiologist. I also had blood and urine tests, EKG and chest X-ray. Call your doctor's office and ask about the pre-admission testing. Best wishes,

This is a pre-op visit????
I would call the doctor to double check on that. They should at least do a CBC and Type/Cross match. I'm sure it was just an oversight, but check just in case. My blood work / urine was also done at the hospital just a couple of days prior to surgery, no doctor, just a nurse. Good luck....let us know how this works out.

This is a pre-op visit????
The ladies are right. There has to be something done somewhere. My mother needed sonograms and CT scan, chest X-ray, and EKG (I had a choice to do these at the hospital). And at the hospital they still needed a blood test of their own. I'm sure not everyone needs a CT scan.
Ask, make sure all is in order.

pre-op
My pre-op was a bit screwed up in that it was scheduled for Friday labs, then a Monday 9 am office visit with Dr. followed by admitting then surgery. Well, the screwed up part is that it didn't happen that way.
A communication mixup at the (non-hospital) lab on Friday wasn't discovered until my Dr. appt on Monday, and resulted in my NOT having the required bloodwork done prior to the day of surgery. OK, I'm expecting a BIG problem now, while I'm standing at Admissions........but guess what? They just did everything right then and there and STAT it up to the pre-op area where I was being shaved, prepped and adorably dressed in that fashion gown and fuzzy socks. It worked! My biggest fear -- that my surgery would be delayed -- did not happen. But I made sure to complain to the original lab later (the one that screwed up). They could have cost me a date at the castle, and boy, would THAT have gotten me steamed! Luckily for me, it all worked out OK.

This is a pre-op visit????
I just had my pre-op this last Tuesday...the gyn listened to my heart and lungs and his exam consisted of pressing on my tummy to see where the fibroids were. Most of the appointment consisted of paperwork. Then I went to the hospital for more paperwork and the only testing I had was a blood draw for blood typing (and probably something else because they took three vials). A nurse called me last night to get a medical history and the anesthesiologist called today to ask his set of questions. I think every doctor has their own idea on what testing are necessary. I did have a EKG in January but have never had chest x-rays.

This is a pre-op visit????
Pat, I agree with the others: call your doctor, there is probably more to come than what you've had.
My pre-op was at the hospital. I didn't see the doctor, nor the anesthesiologist. A pre-op nurse did the medical history, had me sign a lot of paper, including the release form, I pre-registered (saves a lot of time on the day of the surgery) and had blood-work done. I also had a chess X-Ray and an IVP - probably a preventative measure (though it scared me to death), because there had blood in my urine before). I didn't have to give a urine sample, but had to bring one in the day of the surgery: pregnancy test
Margie: most hospitals are equipped to have test results STAT, in order to deal with emergency surgeries. It happened twice that the bloodwork was done the same day as the surgery: first time when I had an emergency D&C due to a miscarriage; second time when I had.... an emergency D&C and hysteroscopy, due to uncontrolled bleeding - that surgery was scheduled the day before, but I didn't have an opportunity to do the bloodwork before.
BTW, Pat, on the second occasion, I had had bloodwork done a few days before, when I ended up in the OR because of the un-controlled bleeding. I'd also had a urine test that time. Still had to have blood work and urine test before the surgery.
