Upcoming hysterectomy: pros/cons of having everything removed except the ovaries?

Does anyone know the pros/cons of having everything removed except the ovaries? My tubes are being removed also. I'm having a hysterectomy because of fibroids. I'm having the DaVinci procedure.

My doctor said there is a new study that shows ovarian cancer starts in your tubes, he also went ahead and took mine out. I had adenomyosis so my cervix had to go to! A plus to having it out to is no mini periods good luck, wishing you all the best!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: pros/cons of having everything removed except the ovaries?

My doctor told me the pro to keeping your ovaries was that you won't go through surgical menopause. Our ovaries are designed to produce the hormones our bodies need to keep us healthy. Also those same hormones help keep our skin looking nicer than if we didn't have them. Once you reach menopause, those hormones will need to be replaced by other means.

I also had the da vinci and everything removed except ovaries. I had severe bleeding due to fibroids. Unfortunately my uterus was too big for that procedure and they ended up taking it out via vagina and I tore. Other than that, no problems post surgery. I am no longer anemic and feel great.

You will do great, too! Wishing you all the best!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: pros/cons of having everything removed except the ovaries?

I had the Davinci method 21 days ago for Stage 1 Cervical Cancer. Everything came out but my ovaries. It was up to me to keep them or get rid of them, but after looking at the pros and cons, I am SO glad I kept them!!

Mine have been working continuously since my surgery. Actually, today I'm really feeling my PMS symptoms, my cycle would be due on the 19th. We need our ovaries to maintain so many things in our bodies! There was a risk of Ovarian cancer in the future, but my surgeon took out the tubes (that's usually wear it starts).

My advice, if you have a choice, keep them!! You definitely won't regret it :-)
