I had a TAH/BSO 8 days ago. When can I expect the hot flashes and night sweats to start??

Re: Night sweats & hot flashes
Everyone is different. Some start right after surgery and others take awhile longer. I was lucky and made it too three weeks before mine started. Good luck.

Re: Night sweats & hot flashes
They may not, or they may be mild and not too bothersome; I've had about three of each and they've left me feeling like, "Oh. That's it? Cool."

Re: Night sweats & hot flashes
Has anybody had a hysterectomy while going through the menopause? I have been having hot flushes and night sweats for 6 or 7 years, and still not finished the menopause. The night of the operation, 2 weeks ago, I had sweats rolling into each other all night and I had hoped that this was my body having its last fling.
Sadly not. As well as waking through the night to go to the toilet, and to change sleeping position, I am still having sweats so I can't get straight back to sleep!
When will it end!

Re: Night sweats & hot flashes
I was having night sweats for almost a year prior to my hysterectomy (both ovaries were removed) and the night sweats *just* started up for me again about 2 days ago.
If that's my only menopausal symptom, I will gladly take the night sweats. It would just be nice if they caused me to lose weight! LOL

Re: Night sweats & hot flashes
I started having mine about two weeks post-op. I'm five weeks post-op today, had my post-op checkup yesterday and my GYN suggested using vitamin E supplements. I went right out & bought some and took a total of 800mg and didn't have a hot flash or night sweat last night. Hoping this is the answer... if not it's onto a low dose patch until I get over this and the one little remaining ovary wakes up.

Re: Night sweats & hot flashes
Thanks Nola70,
I have been trying to go through the menopause naturally for nearly 7 years, always hopeful that I would get there eventually. With night sweats every time I try sleeping on my side, and a stift neck if I sleep on my back, I suspect I may have to use HRT. I plan to wait until my 6 weeks check, but will ask advice on this.
I will try the vitamin E treatment now though, as the chemists is just down the road. I could incorporate this in my increasingly longer walks. I will go for it tomorrow.
I woke at 5.15 am this morning and couldn't get back off to sleep, with this problem. I am off for an afternoon nap in a minute. When the nurse told me it was important, I didn't believe her, but it really helps me cope with the disturbed nights.
