2 days post hysterectomy: A lubricant or soothing option for my vaginal stiches?
I had a LAVH with both ovaries and fallopian tubes removed on 11/12/15. At the site of my vaginal stiches, it is very sore and feels dry? Any suggestions for soothing the irritation? Thanks!

Re: A lubricant or soothing option for my vaginal stiches?
I too had perineal sutures and they were very uncomfortable. Since you can't bathe a sitz bath is out of the question. Did they give you a peri squirt bottle in the hospital? That helps with cleansing the area. As far as putting on some kind of ointment, I'd check with the doc. You may be able to use something like triple antibiotic ointment if they say it's ok. Some women freeze a pad and use that as an ice pack. Or you could use frozen peas. Just be sure to put something (a towel) between the frozen item and your skin to protect that delicate skin. I also was very diligent to take ibuprofen regularly because of it's anti inflammatory properties for about the first 3 weeks. Hope this is helpful. I could only sit up for 3-4 hours and then I'd have to lie down because that area ached.

Re: A lubricant or soothing option for my vaginal stiches?
I totally empathize I am full of stitches. I would call your doctor and ask about the sitz bath as my surgeon recommended it for healing. But each surgery and Doctor is different, so I would maybe ask before trying anything.
I can't take Advil, but my doctor told me if I could it would help with that try dry "stuck tampon" feeling as it is often associated with swelling. It is pretty early to be touching anything in there so no harm in ringing the office and asking for some advice.

Thanks Mollybear! No, they didn't give me a peri squirt bottle. I will try to get one! Will try the frozen peas too! I take the Ibuprofen, but it tends to hurt my stomach ... will call my Doctor if it persists. Yes, I have been having to rest a lot too! Blessings!

Thanks Beebomb! I am not supposed to do sitz baths. But the Ibuprofen helps. Will call my Doctor if it persists. Blessings!

Re: A lubricant or soothing option for my vaginal stiches?
They gave me a peri bottle at the hospital. But I was thinking about it before surgery and bought a generic brand( CVS) of medicated douche . NOT to use as douche but for the squirty bottle. Just empty out the bottle and fill with warm water and squirt it at the outside of your groin area. With the long extension it helps to reach between your legs while you're on the toilet. Just don't insert into vagina. Not perfect but it works in a pinch.
