Sore, swollen throat?

Well, my surgery is over - phew!!! It has been 5 days since my surgery, and I'm doing well. Lots of resting as instructed. But since the surgery, my throat has been really sore and swollen. Is this normal? It's finally starting to feel better, but I thought it was strange that it's taking this long. Actually, my throat has bothered me more than my stomach for the last 5 days!

It is caused by the tube that was put down your throat to help you breathe. Some people end up with sore throats, other don't. I never had it but with time, it should resolve. Make sure you have your doctor check it out when you see him or her if your throat is still sore at that time.

Mine was like that too. Cough drops and suck on ice or Popsicles. Cold really seemed to help. Mine lasted about 5 to 7 days.

I believe it is from the breathing tube. I ended up calling my doc and having to get some mouthwash to gargle to help heal it up. Mine went on for almost 2 weeks. I thought i had caught strep in the hospital. Turns out is was from the tube and I had a bit of thrush going on, I think. Anyway, the mouthwash made a huge difference.

Yes I had it too but it only lasted a couple of days try to dry little sips of water and often your pain meds should help too

I too have had a sore throat since my op last Friday, it's been 4 days now, and I'm guessing it's from breathing tube but no-one has confirmed this. It's worse in the mornings, but cold yoghurts and drinks help. Like you naismith it's bothering me more than my tummy! Take care all x
