Just came from pre-op

Well pre-op was really no help at all -- just made me more nervous!!! I didn't really get any specific orders except the no drinking or eating past midnight and which of my regular meds they wanted me to take or not take. We went through the standard questions, went over the living will -- did height and weight and I talked to the anesthesiologist. So, I don't know much more than before I went in. Waiting is absolutely the worst thing to go through!! My surgery is this Monday and I have to be there at 6:30am. My dr told me 3-5 days stay in the castle and that I'd be off work for 6-8 weeks. I'm a little confused though because the description of my surgery indicated a probable removal of the ovaries and my dr said he was definitely removing them when he gave me my surgery date. Too much to think about!!! Thanks again for this great support site and lots of luck and good wishes to all the ladies out there waiting for their big day!!!

Just came from pre-op

I would definitely want to clarify any discepancies with the DR.

Waiting is Soooooo hard. But, you are almost there. I was more nervous after the pre-op appt too. It made it just too real for me, I guess. LOL I think it is a normal reaction for sure.

I hope all goes well. Come see us in Post OP when you are up to it after your Coronation.

Hi Deb

Please call your doctor and get some clarification on if he is definitely taking your ovaries and why.
If your ovaries are healthy and you are under 50 it is usually worth it to try and keep them. I don't know what your health situation is or your age. But you certainly deserve a better understanding of what all the procedures and why you are having them.
You still have a few days, so don't be shy about picking up that phone okay.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Just came from pre-op

I had asked the dr about keeping at least one ovary and he said if I really wanted to, he would consult with an oncologist at the hospital, otherwise he felt it was best to take them out. I don't ovulate and haven't for some time now. I am 34 and have PCOS. I have gone through the whole cervical cancer ordeal and had to have yet another colposcopy along with my endomitrial biopsy. The dr just felt it was best to take everything during one surgery rather than wait, have something else happen and then have to go through surgery again. He is concerned about ovarian cancer and so am I. I will ask though...the word "probable" just seemed a little odd to me.

Please join us on Cancer Concerns Forum if you and your doctor are having concerns in this area. I know you have already been through some of this. I am so sorry. We are here for you on that forum if you need extra support. The women there are just the best 's.

Just came from pre-op

HI there!

I just had my pre-op today and my surgery is Monday, the 8th also. My Dr was really cool about letting me decide on whether or not to take the ovaries and I want them out!

Super good luck to you! I'm having TAH/BSO and it seems weird to say, but I can't wait!
