Surgery Tmrow 7/5/11. So Close beyond nervous

Hi all,

Well tomorrow is the day! I'm so scared I feel sick everytime I think about it, I am 31yrs Old and I am So ready for the Horrible Periods n such to be over with but still so worried about the Unknown Pain. That I will be feeling after surgery, I think that is what's making me so scared. That and the fact that I "think" I will feel different after surgery! I have amazing family/friends coming over to help my Husband and I wth things arnd the house and our kids!
I have been trying to keep busy ALL weekend and I have done great but now 1day out o feel like I need to fit a lifetime into today...
I have this fear of something goin wrong and not making it thru surgery, please tell me its just my nerves.

My Plan is to stay awake as long as possible tonight and eat until Midnight! My Surgery isn't until 1145am and I plan on sleeping IN!!

Best wishes Sisters!!

Re: Surgery Tmrow 7/5/11. So Close beyond nervous

I think we are all incredibly nervous before surgery! I was also very nervous about the pain--this was my first surgery. During pre-op I reminded the doctor about my pain concerns. I was so fortunate--I was on a morphine drip for 24 hours post surgery and I was pain free! I also have had very minor pain since surgery and was off pain meds totally within 10 days.

Everyone is going to have a different experience since our bodies are different and the amount that needs to be done during surgery varies. However, keep thinking positively about this experience! For us, the experience is new and scary. For the surgeons and all the hospital staff, it is another day on the job and everyone strives to have a great day at work!

Enjoy the holiday with your family. Take time to breathe and tell yourself that all will be well. Best wishes! You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Be strong, EMTSKS (hope I got that right). Everyone is nervous before surgery. Like you, I was worried I wouldn't make it through. It is normal, I think, to be nervous over something so big. I am sure your doctor will take good care of you.

As for pain, yes it will hurt a bit but not so much that you can't stand it. Hospitals are all about helping you manage the pain. I had a dilaudin drip for the first 24 hours and then transitioned quite easily to ibuprofen and tylenol.

Hang it there and let us know how it goes. By the evening of my first full day post op, I was already using my netbook so be sure to keep in touch.

Believe me, you will be fine. They will give you something to calm your nerves. It all went so fast and before I knew it I was in recovery.
